I heard a rumor that the Duramax is getting
re-designed cylinder heads in 2004. What's the
deal?

I'll bet that the source of the rumor was in no way connected with Duramax Limited, and that it's pure fiction, but I wont bet much money. tongue.gif

You can bet that since F*$# is coming out with a new diesel that has 600 ft. torque and D*^%# is bringing out a new high performance 5.9, GM certainly has something waiting in the wing.

The redesign addresses service issues-

As far as I know, the injectors will be serviceable without having to remove the valve cover, and all fuel return lines will be outside the valvecover as well. Should reduce or eliminate the chances of fueling the oil, as well as making injector service or replacement MUCH easier.

Aluminum will still be the material of choice.

Yes, the '04 will have redesigned heads, but not due to any problem with the current design.

In '04 the Duramax will have 50 State EGR and the redesign will include the EGR and a couple of other minor changes to "clean up" the emissions. The '04's will also have catalytic converters.

Be glad you've got one before the '04. EGR is a nightmare for a diesel engine.
