I just put a new headpipe on with a hollowed out Catalytic converter. Now I am geting an engine light. Anyone else have this with new exhaust systems on a truck with a Cat?
What should I do?

Hey Mike,

Why do you have a CAT? I have yet to see a D-max with a cat?

Thats funny because the california emmisions trucks have the Cat in the down pipe section. When I removed my Cat I just replaced everything from the top clamp to the four bolt pipe connection. If you changed out the down pipe that should have gotten it. Maybe after market doesn't the Cat.

I replaced the pipe from the top clamp to the 4 bolt connection. I got a pipe with a cat on it but it has been hollowed out. Now I have the engine light. That is the ONLY change that has been made.

You'll need the code in order to get a proper solution. Pass by your local autostore and see if they will read the code for you. The Autozone's here will read them for free. I use Autotap on my laptop though.

Well I went on the 8th test drive. I retightened everything thinking I might have left something loose. (don't see how just checking) The light went out after I got on it pretty hard. So maybe it is corrected. I will hit autozone tomorrow and see if they will read the code..

Hey Mike I think someone on this site said that if you put a pipe threw the cat you will pick up a few extra HP! I guess the open can cause extra turbulance and the hot air cant find its way out as fast! Hows the noise level? I will be ordering my 2004 with a updated motor soon, I dont have a cat on my 01..... smile.gif
