I currently own a '94 2500HD 4x4 Ext. cab W/ BD chip and 4" exhaust.152,000 miles. This truck has done everything I needed it to, not disapointed at all. Here inlies the problem, a local dealer has a '01 D/A 2500 4x4 ext. cab long box SLT 36,000 miles. This truck is beautiful and under $30,000. I'm aliitle concerned with all the injector talk i've been reading on TDP, cause this would be hopefully the last truck I would buy for a long time!! I'm a little worried it's a 1st year model. Will this truck go the distance?
Any suggestions Thanks MTNHICO

Well, I for one have the Marbles to buy first year .....

You will have the remaining 100k 5yr warranty which will cover the fuel system ..... Get the "right price with " an Extended GM warranty and I wouldn't hesitate,if your concerned .....

Long term ,clean up the fuel,I'm working on it myself .....

Just check around for NEW also it's a buyers market ...... Used vehicle, all shapes sizes brands are really low right now, the market is flooded ....
Good luck ,

Mac :D :D :D

I agree. I'm looking for an 01 or 02 crew cab six speed but I can't find one anywhere.

I know the warranty is good, just can't afford to have the truck down for to long, or at all for that matter, but Who can? Thanks for the help

MTNHICO,
I wouldnt be worried, I bought my 01 with 64,000 miles on it, and havent had a bit of trouble so far. I would say it would be worth around 28K or so for that amount of miles.

Paid 29k for mine with 12500 miles and just turned 22k with no major problems.
Local dealer has an 01 ext cab long box with 75k for 24k.Nice truck LT and a 4x4 to boot!Prices seem to be coming down.

My 2001 has about 25,000 miles on it with no major problems so far. It is better than the 2003's because it has a plastic cover on the engine that says 6.6 AND an under the hood light ;)

MtnHico,

We just had a ext cab LS 4x4 swb 36k miles traded in and gave 25,500. I'm in Dallas so the market could be different. Hopefully this will give you a reference. A long bed usually runs about a grand more.

My California registered 2001 had 30,000 on it and I picked it up for $26,500 including air bags and 5th wheel hitch in the rear. Had the "Allison torque converter drains down after sitting for a week problem", the "Allison hunts excessively while towing with cruise control" problem, as well as poor a/c performance in triple digit environments. Warranty replaced an Allison pump (and also did a nice tranny service), reflashed the on board puter for the hunt problem and found the A/C was 1/2 lb. low on freon but without leaks. Otherwise it's been a relatively tame beast of burden.

Lucky for me, the previous owner didn't have access to this outstanding forum, otherwise he might have reconsidered and kept it or stayed firm on price. Now I'm waiting for the Diesel God in Kennedy Country to cause my Juice to be delivered via a uniformed courier, whereupon I may be forced to put lighter shoes on after unleashing the beast or suffer the slings and arrows of the CHP.

Mtn,

I agree with Mac, cleaner fuel will make a huge difference IMOP and an extended warranty as close to dealer cost as you can get it would turn the light green on an "01. As with any used vehicle a lot depends on how well the previous owner cared for it. You can tell a lot my just looking at it. Do you have any sevice records you can refer to?

good luck,
Bob

My 2001 Dmax/All was built Nov 2000, I bought it in Feb of 2001, truck now has 95000 miles and runs like a top. It has had a performance enhancer on it for 80,000 of those miles with no problems, it also has had TLC as far as service. I would make sure the truck has been taken care of, as the old Fram commercial went, "It's pay me now or you will pay me later."

I've got a guy wanting to buy my 01,D-max allison
3500,4x4 with 33000 miles extended cab,but don't
know what to ask or if i want to go to the
trouble of adding running boards, rear, and goose
neck hitchs, and bed fuel tank again. The dealer
I got it from will sell me a 04 model for $39000, then there's a $2000 rebate.

The previous owner just used it to camp with his cabover. Had all srvice done at dealer. He even kept a log on the fuel milage till 5,000 miles. This truck was not abused.I went by dealer today for another test drive ,I want this truck problem is they don't want my '94! and I need a decent trade in to make deal work. Still hagglin' #s with them.So if they come down to my price we'll have a deal. Thanks for the responses, it did help in making my decision. :D MTNHICO
