Sounds like you may have an airleak in the fuel system.... Can you bleed air from the fuel filter when the engine dies?

Five years on the OEM batteries... Would appear the ACDelco batteries did a good job for you. I've had good luck with ACD, and is all I use, but others haven't had the same experience. For about twice the cost, the Optima batteries have a good reputation.
