My truck was built at the PONTIAC EAST ASSEMBLY plant.

The (Production Date) on my truck is 12-10-2001 (on the frame)
yet the Build Date on the Duramax engine is 01/02 (on the metal plate)

The dealer invoice shows the dealer ship date of 01/09/02 (on the dealer invoice)

Maybe Howard could explain how the engine was manufactured
so close to ship date? Hummmm.........

56,Pontiac had a 2-3 week shut down at the end of the year.Chances are frame was tagged before that shut down and remained on the line. Then the engine was brought in after re-start of the line after the first of the year, completed an then shipped out.........JB.

56Nomad,
If I recall correctly it was mentioned on the forum that the injector hard seats didn't hit the production lines untill about mid 2002. I would also be interested in the date as my engine falls somewhere in that time frame. Anyone got these times are know a way we can find out.

Engines don't sit very long in inventory. They, generally speaking, are one of the higher dollar items in the truck. GM only holds a couple of days on hand at their staging locations. The first explanation is a good one, there is always an extended break around Christmas and New Year.
