Just got injectors replaced (no more smoke)and reflased with the Quadzilla. But wait now the message center flashes the "low fuel" indicator, "battery" indicator, and "security". The fuel and tem guage do not work for the first 5 minutes of operation.

Tried to restore to stock but cannot establish communication with reloader. Dealer cannot scan either. Says the computer is toast and that will be $800+!! OUCH!

Anyone else run into this or is Mr. Gates building software for GM on the side?

Any input is appreciated.

This has happened with Predators, too. Check the archives.

madmatt, Have you tried to reprogram using a Techline terminal instead of a Tech II?

I guess what I'm asking is, is this is a hard failure in the ECM or is it a corrupted software issue?

as i understand it's a massive software failure that prevents the ecm from being reprogramed agained. Aparently when you get a new ecm it already has a small amout of software in it to prevent people from buying blanks and completly programing it themselves. the software being installed must "jive" w/ the ecm factory installed software or else it can't be programmed at all. Supposedly, on occasion when using a programmer if anyting goes wrong after uploading the factory software file and before installing the modified program, it can and will blank the ecm not allowing any communication what so ever.

FRMLPLR,

Was this a virgin programmer, or had it been used on another truck? If this was a new programmer, what did your Quad dealer have to say? What has Quad had to say?

As a side note, ECM's are available on the salvage market for about $200. Any replacement ECM would need to be reflashed by your dealer and updated with your VIN.

The Quad was new last year. Quad says they will reload programer but that is it. Had used it total of 4 times in last year to swap power ranges. Dealer has seen this once before but doesn't want to help on cost of ECM.

Can you recommend site to find used ECM? Always appreciate info and help from site.

I bought both an ECM and a TCM from one or the other of the above vendors for $200/ea. Both computers worked just fine. The ECM needed to be reflashed by a local dealer for the VIN I'm using for Lil Red (http://www.thedieselpage.com/features/project2-16.htm).

Thanks MP! Ordered from Spaulding for $300 new unit, zero miles, 6 month warranty. Do you know of anyone that can open old ecm and repair or use for testing or possibly load their own programming.

Thanks again!

The ECM I used allowed me to start/run/drive the truck after completing the Passlock/password learn procedure (30 minute process). Your dealer can do this as well using a Tech II, but it is much faster. Your replacement ECM will need to learn the keylock code in your ign switch assy before it'll allow the engine to run.

Not a lot is known about the internal workings of the ECM, in so far as to determine whether it can be repaired.
