View Full Version : Who *hasn't* had Injector Problems

Just so that we can have a perspective as to how wide spread this injection situation is:

1) Who hasn't had injector problems?
2) What year is your truck?
3) LB7 or LLY?
4) How many miles on your truck?

I really worry about an injector failing and spewing fuel into the crankcase. What are the various symptoms that a truck will have when it has injector probolems? Any things that can be done to reduce the odds of having these problems?

No problems on my 2003 LB7. Why worry about it? If you look at the numbers, most do not have injector problems. Do what you can (e.g. additive and extra filter system) and enjoy the truck. :D

56,000 and no problems. Right now its still my all time favorite "ride".

I was kind of paranoid about it for a while being this is my first diesel and not knowing what to expect. Then I decided that if it ever leaves me on the side of the road, I'll just pour gas on it and set it on fire. :D

I have a 2001 LB7 with the Allison. About 30k miles now. No engine problems at all.

The truck is all stock, and I replace the fuel filter every 10k or so, and don't use any fuel additives.

The only problem the truck has been in the shop for was a minor leak from the transmission gear select shaft area (near the NSBU switch). This was fixed under warranty.

2001 Chevrolet 135,000 miles then it needed injectors.
2001 GMC 105,000 miles then it needed injectors.
2004.5 35,000 miles and it needs 3. Waiting for them to come in.

Late model LB7, 5000miles I have **10/230 drag file with air and exhaust mods, also propane. I run the truck very hard and use a custom blend of additives no problem. I think adding a high quaility additive helps to lube the moter giving better lubricity to the injection pump.

I have a 2002 LB7 Duramax with about 20k miles. The truck is used only on weekends for family outings (pulling travel trailer and several boats). It sits in the garage during the weekday. The truck has never needed service for the injectors. All the balance rates are less than 1, with the exception of cylinder #1 which is -1.70. The truck have been running a Pre_OEM Racor 2 micron filter since around 12k miles.

I had the ECM/TCM updated with the latest software (Feb 2004) and the intermediate shaft lubricated for the steering rattle (and it is starting to rattle again). Thats about it.

I plan on trading the vehicle for a new one in the 2008 timeframe (usually trade every 5 years, but I will stretch it this time to 7 years). I really like the truck and would stretch it farther, but I do not want to be exposed to the possible $4K liability if the injectors do go bad (which looks like a fairly high probability after 100K miles).

2002 LB7 with 50K + miles. 20K of them at 500+ HP levels.

Zero injector problems. FPPF fuel treatment every tank. (Fuel testing did show that my local diesel provider had very good/clean fuel right out of the pump)

Last 8K with Kennedy Mega filtration, fuel quality is now excellent. :D

Saywhat wrote:OC-DMAX injectors should be warranted up to 200,000 miles.

The only problem is the new warranty is limited to 7 years (7 years / 200K miles). So for those of us that put on low miles every year (7K miles in my case), the this new injector warranty really buys us an extra 2 years. Personally, I feel as if the warranty should be 200k miles period.

I agree with OC-Demax, but am still not too worried about it. Mid 2001 no real problems of any kind, no fuel additives and on 3rd fuel filter -- Hey Jim get with the program and change that filter a little more often tongue.gif

2002 with 46,000 miles, no problems except: warranty replacement of a bad relay for the air conditioner when the truck was new( took 3 minutes for them to fix) and a blown fuse for the door locks. No repeat problems so far no injector issues. I change fuel filter every 6,500 miles. I did have a new filter that was dirty and had rust in the bottom of it right out of the box from the dealer. They said it wouldn't have hurt to put it on, I said no please give me my money back. I buy my fuel and oil filters from NAPA, and my trans filterss from allison. "Much cheaper"

2001 LB7 with 47,000 miles. No problems whatsoever (waiting for my tailgate cables to fail). If all else is in good shape I'll keep the truck through a post-seven year injector replacement. Love the air ride suspension and I don't want to pay to put it on a new truck.

One of the first LB7 2001 6 speeds sold in Ontario (Dec. 2000), 45,800 miles (73,700 kms.) and no injector problems. Stock fuel filter, changed every year (21,000 kms.) and no additives. ALWAYS buy fuel from one of two places unless I'm away from home and then I only go to the major fuel truckstops.
Only one problem with the flywheel that was replaced in the summer of 2002 and a few other minor things. I had my last truck 15 years and I hope to keep this one that long as well. :D :D :D

My '03 Duramax "only" has 36,000 miles on it, but it is not my daily driver either. It sits in the garage all week long, and only comes out on weekends to tow a 12,000 lb toy hauler. So even though my truck only has 36,000 miles on the odometer, about 34,000 of those miles have been spent towing its maximum rated capacity.

NO problems what-so-ever with this truck.

2001 Chevy 2500 HD/Allison/LB7 28,000 miles.
Starting at 15000 I had an injector fail about every 2000 miles. Finally on the 5th injector and many long conversations with Chevy Customer Service, Reigonal managers,Dealer managers,Dealer service pesonal, and service techs., Chevy released the letter about the faulty injectors and have now changed all 8 at once. They claim it is the cure-all. I only have drive it 1200 miles since, and no problems as of yet. Good Luck! crashdnt@aol.com
