The other day after driving on a lot of snowy and slushy roads. I went to go somewhere and my truck was stuck in third gear (alison trans). I limped in to the dealer and they said it was a pnp sensor. (park neutral position). I guess this has been a common problem with moisture eventually getting into the sensor so they changed the design. Well $420 later i was back on the road. Truck has 62k so its out of warranty. The part was only $175, they charged over $200 to put this sensor on. If this is a common problem shouldnt this be a recall? If i knew how simple the installation was i would have installed it myself. Has anyone had this same pblm?

common pratice is to only issue a recall if the part or system affected poses a safty concern. That sensor is available from Allison dealers for less then $50 and can be installed in a few minutes. I'm sure diag was figured into your bill as well. There is a shield kit available to protect your switch from mud and snow build up.

My dealerworld is down so I can't give the exact P/N or bulletin but I have listed the P/N, bulletin # and a supplier list here before. You can get it through your dealership.

I wish i had known about the sensor sooner. I guess the dealer got me again.

I recently changed mine out and got the switch from Allison for $46. The shield came with my NSBU switch.

the shield I'm talking about is a big sheet metal shield that encases the whole switch.
