On my Duramax's recent trip to the Chevy service dept for oil change/service the tech notified us that there was no air cleaner element in the filter housing! Seems as though last time it was in for service (about a month ago)the dealership recommended changing the element and we agreed, but they forgot to install the new one after removing the old one. Any ideas on what Chevy's responsibility should be? Obviously upon figuring it out they replaced the element, but how much was the engine life shortened? Also (for what it it worth) there was no significant improvement in fuel economy during the month-about 4,000 miles.

Bummer dude!

I'd have the engine oil analyzed as soon as possible. www.avlube.com (http://www.avlube.com) offers this service.

Knowing what the silicon and wear metal concentrations are could indicate what has occurred when not running an air filter.

another good thing to look at is the compressor wheel on the turbo..to see if it looks like it was sand blasted or not.Just pull the air tube off and look with a flash light
