View Full Version : Drop in oil pressure with Rotella synthetic?

Tell me I'm worried for no good reason. I changed my oil a few days ago to Rotella synthetic 5w-40. 18,000 miles up to that point on Rotella T 15w-40. I also changed the fuel filter. I've noticed that my oil pressure at idle when the engine is warm is lower than it used to be. On the dino Rotella it would drop to ~40 psi at idle. On the synthetic it drops below 40 to the next small line on the guage, about 35 psi (guesstimate), at idle. Is this a problem or anything I should be worried about. Has anyone else noticed it when changing to synthetic?

Maybe its just wishful thinking, but I think I noticed a difference after changing the fuel filter. Seems a hair quicker on acceleration.

A small drop in pressure is not uncommon when switching to a synthetic. Just because you have a drop does not mean you don't have flow. Really it's nothing to worry about.

I just switched to Rotella 5w40 and the oil pressure is the same. 45psi at idle and 75psi on the road running. I was running Delo 15w40 before this. 35,000 miles and temp outside around 75 degrees.
