I ran a extention cord down the fram to the rear bumper where i drilled a 1" hole next to license plate and installed a stainless steel plug housing that I got from a local international truck dealer it looks and works great.

jsa,
If you cut the wiring loom open alittle more,it can be routed down to the right side tow hook area. I have mine wire tied to the hook and can be tucked behind the front bumper cover.Hope this helps.

Hi,

I obtained a waterproof plug assembly at West Marine, made by Marinco, and drilled it into the airdam. Picture is at the following link at the bottom of the page:

Wow another thing that should have came standard on these trucks for what they list for. That is a great idea and a nice neat installation!

The link above to the Marinco plug (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=14773) has been updated. I ordered one from the
previous link (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=123421&catalogId=10001&classNum=311&subdeptNum=310&storeNum=9) and it’s not the same part that tcelano1 used. redface.gif It’s looks almost identical except that it's designed for a special molded plug to attach to the back. The part in the updated link above contains a plug.

Using a heat gun I was able to press a standard plug into the one Marinco-Guest part I bought and I ended up mounting the plug assy in the center of the air dam under the license plate.

The setup functions as an extension cord that’s routed from the air dam to a spot near the coolant expansion tank. The existing block heater cord is plugged into the end of the added extension cord. Click here for fullsize pics (http://community.webshots.com/album/63497470OVEkww)

DMAXED,
Your rear bumper cord installation sounds interesting. I tried to access your photo link but it didn't work ... It looks like it may have be pointing to the editor location, which isn't publicly accessible. smile.gif

Johns,
Your block heater plug is wire tied to the harness on the passengers side of the engine compartment. It is below your intake pipe coming from the air filter housing. I found my plug way down along the fender liner.
Hope this helps.

PS. How do you like your TTT mirrors??

I have question on block heater use after the engine is at ~185 F. That is the temp the engine reaches approx. when I get to work. If I plug the truck in then and leave it all day ~12 hours is that acceptable to the heater element?? Does it self regulate at any temperature? I only want to do this because the truck get very cold after sitting all day. It has not been cold enough yet to try this out but I wanted to know if anybody thinks it will degrade the life of the heater significantly.

Forced Induction,
I don't think it self regulates a set temp.I have found using a heavy-duty timer and setting it to come on approx. 3 hours before I leave in the morning or from work the engine warms up much faster. It is also easier on the electric bill. I haven't had any problems even with temps. close to zero.I have been thinking about putting an oil pan warmer on the engine in place of the block heater only because the oil will also warm the coolant alittle at the sametime.

Westmarine.com – Marinco 150BBI (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=14773) This website is such a great resource smile.gif ....Also good at emptying out my wallet tongue.gif

Did a little research on the 120 volt pass throughs and found that the Marinco BBI is a hard wire on the back side, in other words you will need to cut off the end of you plug on the block heater. (MAR150BBI)

The Marinco CCI series plug is a direct plug in to the back side. (MAR150CCI)

Both can be found here at Boatfix.com xxxhttp://www.boatfix.com/bymfg.ASP?make=MARINCO (remove the xxx's) for about $12.00.

HD-Nate,

Good work on researching the Marinco parts options. http://forum.thedieselpage.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif The Marinco CCI series part with the receptacle on the back (MAR150CCI) sounds like the way to go as long as the block heater cord will reach to the desired location on the air dam.

I appreciate the info guys. I got my Marinco plug Tuesday and took the male end off a 6 foot heavy duty extension cord, wired up the plug and cut a 1 7/8" hole on the side of my front Ranch Hand and "Voila"; instant covered plug. smile.gif Now I don't have to raise the hood on those cool Houston mornings. Thanks, David

Swanny,

As long as the combined load doesn't exceed 15 amps you should be OK. I would also use 12 or 14 gauge wire. You may be able to find a Y connector that would plug into the Marinco MAR150CCI that Nate referenced. This would allow both heaters to easily connect to the Marinco feed thru connector. Also be careful to seal the connections from the elements so they don’t become corroded. smile.gif

I pretty much have the block heater isuue licked. What I did was buy some 4 inch flexable tubing and routed it from the engine to six toilet bowls occupied by 5 heavyset polish women playing accordians while eating endless supplies of baked beans. The unoccupied bowl is a vent-trust me you need this. I MAY be in violation of a township ordinance though. Otherwise no real drawbacks
