My 2002 dmax alli, threw a service engine light and i took it to the dealership last tuesday. I received a call and they stated they were giong to replace all of the injectors, both thermostats and a water temp sensor. when I asked why all of the work they simply stated "it just needed it". I am wondering if there is a problem with the injuctors and they are trying to get them all while they can or did they all really go bad? seems to me like they aren't telling me everything I need to know? anyone help? thank god it is under warranty, I wouldn't want a bill like that after the warranty period!

doubtfull that they all are bad but hey let them change them as long as they are paying.......sounds like a bunch of part swapping mechanics and no one willing to find the real problem

What a coincidence. Mine went in the shop yesterday for exactly the same problem. They are going to let me know if they have to change the injectors today. I had the same service codes as yours plus the air intake heater. All this after the warranty is over.

I cannot believe that these injectors are so much money, I was told they are 530 dollars before installation, what is the installation cost? Are these injectors defective and they have better replacements? Do you think this will ever be a recall issue? I don't want to have to pay this bill after the extended warranty is over. what to to?

Just for laughs i asked my dealer what it cost for my 8 injector replacement job they said $4800, but that's only what GM will pay. If it was customer pay out of warranty, it would have cost over $6200. I had a few other things replaced also so 4500 and 5800 are probably the right numbers. Total bill on my truck for all three visits was $6200 billed to GM which I'm guessing would have been over $8000 If I had to pay out of warranty!!! Not good!!

How many miles on your truck? Is the injector problem in the '02 listed in your sig? The Dmax warranty is 100K miles/5 years, with a $100 deductable after 36K miles/3 years.

mdrag, I have 43,000 miles on my 02. It turned out not to be the injectors like they thought. I had a crimped fuel line and once that was fixed along with a couple of code re-programs, the truck is running like new. The dealer did tell me about the 100,000 mile warranty on injectors. Thanks for the info.

I sure hope so. The one they are removing is broke, right?

There have been several injector updates. The last update was about 4 months ago, IIRC. Could have been another one yesterday. Who really knows.

Dmax where did you get you info on injector updates. I have not heard of any. The so called reman injectors are new because they do not have a large enough core base yet. To my knowledge the only updates were in the production truck from 01-02.I believe the service injector is that same design. Please let us know.

You guys are scaring me.I drive a 6.5 and have been looking at buying a DMax.The cost of replacement of 8 fuel injectors is way too much, even if I do the work. New 6.5 injectors are $35 apiece. Maybe I cant afford a DMax, especially after the warranty period.
