This morning on my drive in I noticed my oil pressure guage reading normally (close to 80 psi) while on the accelerator but as soon as I take my foot off it dropped to almost 40psi. I cant reacall this happening before.

My SO changed the oil and filter on tuesday (OEM black filter and 15W40 Shell Rotella T).

I have not checked the oil level yet but will ASAP. I'll also check for any pooled oil under the truck when I leave this afternoon.

Any ideas?

Sounds perfectly normal to me. My rig does exactly the same thing and has since new. With the engine up to normal temp, the idle oil pressure will run 40lbs. Any engine speed above idle the oil pressure will climb very fast. I do not remember the RPM range, but seems like around 1000 rpm's the pressure will max out at near 80.

Once the engine warms up 40 psi is a normal idle pressure.

I just never noticed it before I guess. Rather dumb of me considering truck has 8,500 miles on it.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Diesel Girl,
One more that does the same thing. Picked it up Thursday and noticed it right away. about 78 at cruising speed and 40 at idle. How do you like the Shell Rotella?

AKDmax -

So far so good wtih the Rotella T. I havent noticed any changes of any type.

I do need to find a bigger oil drain pan though. Made a bit of a slick when it was drained apparently.
