About a week ago I lost my squeak when shutdown the engine...is this good or bad? What was the squeak anyway?

Loosing the squeek is not necessarily a bad thing, but...

Take a peek at your serpentine belt to make sure all is well. Make sure there are no cracks, missing pieces, or other obvious damage.

If all looks good, enjoy your time without the "belt check" at shutdown.

The cause of the squeek is the fact that the engine shuts down so fast that the accessories (AC pump, alternator, etc..) keep trying to turn. The pulleys spinning on the belt for a split second makes the noise.

How many miles you have?
I'd be thinking maybe a new belt.
Possibly lost the squeek when the belt lost tension enough to make a squeek.

I think I found your squeak at shut down. Mine just started squeaking this week every so often when shutting down.
You are more than welcome to take it back cause I don't like it :(

MAC is right. The high compression causes an abrupt stop.

Mine was not really noticable when i first got the truck.....it seems to have gotten a bit louder since then(3500 miles and counting smile.gif )

Kind of annoying but oh well nature of the beast. I have read on here I believe the the goodyear gatorback stop this.

50K miles...I put on a new belt (PITA!) a couple weeks ago. I'll check out the belt. Thanks.

Geez, I wish I could lose my squeak!!

Sounds like a clapped-out mopar when I shut it down!

But, I guess there's a price to be paid for having all that juice (dual alts)!

Unfortunately, belt dressing is not recommended for serpentine belts.

I have heard on here (do a search) that the Gator Back will not squeak at shut down. If the info has not lost during down time, you should find the part number for it.

Thanks cmadmaxman...I didn't go with the Gatorback...I got it from GM...I don't think it is a Gatorback...I will check as I have the old belt as a spare stored in the new belt wrapper. I can always put the old one back on and see if the squeak returns! :D

Also, just after changing the belt, I did about a 1000 mile trip pulling a 20' g/n stock trailer the last 350 miles...not sure about the trailer weight, but it is the heaviest thing pulled to date.

My stock belt squeaked like that from day 1. It also chirped every time the A/C compressor kicked on. I put on a GY Gatorback belt a couple of weeks ago, and the squeak is gone.

Mine squeeks when the A/C kicks in also. I just ignore it.

I found my squeak....if I turn the steering wheel to full lock (left or right) and turn the key off...BAM!!! There it is...

So if you're pointing straight ahead no squeak?
If that's the case, the powersteering unit is putting additional resistance on the belt causing the squeak.

Silver Bullet

yes...straight ahead with no additonal resistance on the belt (not turning the wheel) and it is as quiet as a gasser.

I miss my squeak! :(

OK, All you squeakers!

1. Shut off the AC
2. Make sure the steering is straight.
3. If the fan is turning, Wait for cool down and for fan to stop...yah right!
4. Turn off the key.
Squeak...gone
Whew! Let

Mine was squeeking at shutdown too.... Mine turned out to be a loose pulley, and it was out of alignment. They replaced the pulley, and the belt, and all noise is now gone.
