When will GM release the specs & prices for the '04's ??? Any body heard what we can expect ??

My '02 was totaled in an accident, since the bow-tie saved my life I will be buying another. I figure by the time all the hasles with the insurance company(s) are through, the '04's will be on the lot.

Also, any good dealers here out west ??? We live in So-Cal. Our soon to be previous governor  smile.gif was nice enough to triple our reg fees  . So, we will most likely buy the new bow-tie out of state and register it there. We are leaning towards Texas. Any help would be appreciated.

glamisboy,

Nomad is another CA boy who did not like
paying those fees......

Nor did I want a cat converter..... first and
only in CA for 2002

Bought the truck in Texas

There are not many legal ways to get out of
paying the lic and tax if you live in the new
state of Schwarzenegger..... but it can be
done* :D

i think most the specs are a page or so back..production date is no later than Dec 18 on the 04 but give it another month to make it through the truck plant

If you do get stuck w/CA, go talk to Marvin K. Brown in San Diego. We searched from Vegas to CA and they gave us the best deal and turned out to be very respectable. Ask for Jennifer Brown, who is granddaughter of the founder.

there are 04 Duramax/Allisons on the lot around MI, but they also build them here. Paperwork, specs, brochures shouldn't be too far behind at the dealers.

I heard rumors GM is going to "tweak" some things on the D-Max to get us back on top for '04. I wondered if anyone was aware of the definants.

the D/A truck I saw had an 04 window sticker on it, the option packages and prices were even slightly different. I'm guessing the early 04' model year Duramax trucks have '03 built engines in them

The following quote from the latest (August) GM Techlink (http://service.gm.com/gmtechlink/images/issues/cnt_mo/TLcme.html#story9) gives a hint about the 04 Dmax changes...

"The interim 2004 Duramax 6600 diesel engine (RPO LLY) becomes available January 2004. Though similar to the current production Duramax 6600, this engine offers some significant differences. The GM Service Technical College (STC) will offer an updated Diesel Engine Performance course to reflect the changes. Refreshed and updated CBT, IDL, and Hands-on course components will be released successively beginning April 2004..."

Its been established that there will be substantial changes to the injection setup, turbo and various other parts for mid 04'. So how about some hp and torque ratings. So far nobody has come up with anything as far as that goes. Also does anybody know if there will be any changes made to allison?

oh, by the way the engine refered to on the link posted by 56nomad is the early 04' spec duramax(LB7). The revised duramax will go under the code LLY I believe and those are the ratings that I am in search of.

koolgt,

I have an'04 3500 on order and I got my build date today - 08/24/03. It will obviously have the LB7 engine so I miss the new stuff, INCLUDING the smog junk.

I may have to look into an aftermarket (factory) garrett variable vane turbo once they get up and running. Jim's article on the DMAX Suburban suggests that parts are available on a bit by bit basis from the manufacturer (if I can figure out how to do that). Can't do much about the heads and reworked injectors so I'll go with my planned extra fuel filter system and try to keep the fuel as clean as possible. I'll match or beat the power increases with a level 2 juice and be a happy camper.

I talked to a guy this past weekend that has an '04 gasser. I took a look at the truck, and it looked really sharp. This was a LS CC short bed. The truck has most if not all of the same features our '03s have. Still no lights under the hood  Instrument cluster and interior layout are the same. He did tell me that the sales guy said that the fender flares are painted to match for the '04. I find that hard to believe, but not much surprises me anymore.

Picked up this tidbit on PUTC. It's very recent but not sure of the reliability of the source.

I got word today while at the local GM dealership that the mid-year 2004 will see an increase in tq/hp for the duramax 6600. Hp 350 / 3200rpms & Tq 565lbs / 1800rpms.

Hoot,

Would that be 287HP to the ground? How much does the 6.0 PowerJoker put down?

Burner----> :D

</font>[/QUOTE]I agree almost 100% what u hear was correct, other than ur HP is too much...the 04 duramax is rated at 320HP and 565ft/lbs torque, but we all know GM under rates everything.. and my source is very reliable :D

I must say I'm a little dissapointed. Even though the improvements to the 04' dmax will be worth while I was really hoping for GM to knock ford off the top.At 320 hp its still 5 hp short of the problem prone 6.0L. I still believe that GM builds a superior product but I was really hoping for 350 hp like it was stated earlier. Oh well I suppose givin its lighter wieght its will probably still outperform the 6.0L.

We still have the Allison though to put the power down, Furd dont...
