I am making the switch to synthetics. Recently changed to Delvac 1 5W-40 and an Amsoil bypass oil filter. What service interval is appropriate? I was considering a primary filter change ever 5K and oil with bypass filter change at 10K intervals. Is this reasonable or overkill with synthetic oil?

jlowder,

Sounds abt right tome tho I haven't yet a bypass system.
I intend todo just as you say sense the 11 fittings need a little shot @ 5k & take a sample @ 10k. The sample will give us a good feel on what is what & whether or not we extend the delvac 1 interval.
Been with synthetics for lotsa years & know that if you can just keep it clean it'll keep on doing it's job. Especially at this time of year in cold starts & shrunk pistons when iq anything may get into the oil.
You can us search at top right of page & probly find a lotsa info using maybe, bypass filter or oil change & such.
Also find AvLube, Lub Specialists & others here on DP as well as your nearest caterpillar dealer for the oil analysis. smile.gif
