Need Help!!

I was away for 2 weeks and my truck was parked. When I returned and started it everything seemed normal. I put the transmission into reverse and nothing happened.I then put it in drive, same thing nothing. I turned off the motor and and then restarted it put it in reverse and it was normal! Why?

The truck has 21k on it. The transmission is due for fluid change at 25k.

It's normal....

Although I do not have the Allison, from my past readings on this board, the Allison torque converter will drain down during extended non-use periods. Sometimes a restart is needed to reset the internals of the tranny as it sees the zero pressure as a problem and will not allow gear selection. When you restarted, the tranny saw pressure and allowed you to select a gear.

If I'm wrong, someone will correct me.

I don't have that problem with my ZF
