Gas milage

New guy here. What gas milage can be expected from the Duramax engine? I have 25K miles on my truck and at present getting 17 MPG solo. Pulling a 10,000 lb trailer I get 12 MPG.

39,000 miles, 17-19 mpg mixed driving, empty and a RCH less than 13 mpg towing an 8,000 lb. high sq. ft. frontage 5th wheel. :cool:

I get about 17-19 as well. If I have the tailgate down and drive the speedlimit (65) I get sometimes 21. Truck has 7,000 miles.

I would venture to say that your DURAMAX "gas mileage" will be 0 mpg or at least it better be... :D
Ha! couldn't resist. Seriously, my FUEL mileage is 16 mpg around town, 19.5 on the highway, and about 13.7-14 mpg towing a 9000lb 5ver @ 72 mph. Of course I'm runnin' a 4x4 3500(duals). A 2500HD would probably do a bit better in all instances.

"Gas milage" has a better sound than "diesel milage". Old habits die hard.

My 3/4t 4x4 will get 17 MPG in town or on the road. Very seldom do I drive over 65 MPH and most trips are over 15 miles one way. The reason I'm a little concerned is that the last time I changed oil (every 5 to 6000 miles) I notice fine aluminum particles in the oil. That was 300 miles ago. Have not cut the oil filter open todate but plan to do so. Also, I noticed a little buzzing noise coming from the transmission that is really noticable at 50 MPH. I know that the noise is coming from the gear mesh due to spur cut gears but when you can feel the vibration in the gas... oops! diesel pedal, it makes you wonder. Am I being paranoid?

I have 3500 2003 crew cab with 9800 miles I get 13 around town and 9.5 with my 12 foot slide in camper then when I put my 18' enclosed trailer I get 7.5 to 8 mpg.

17 to 19 in general. Don't tow enough to know. Seems to have dropped now (38K miles) from what it was last year some. I have gotten 21 occasionally. I do calcuate the 14% due to bigger tires that the truck is too stupid to know about...

what did you gain in mpg when you did the exhaust system? Considering doing one on my truck, but interested in what kind of return of my money I'll get... I'm currently getting about 13 mpg, with 9500 miles on my truck...Great truck though...

18 or 19 in mixed driving solo. This is a mix of congested city driving in Austin and a 5-mile hilly country road between the city and home.

13-14 towing a 7000# Airstream at 65. 15 towing the same trailer at 60. This is a mix of Texas Hill Country and flat southeastern Texas.

17 mpg average, city/highway. 17 mpg sustained 75 mph highway. 8-10 towing 15k 5th wheel at 70-75 mph, depending on wind and hills. Low of 8.4 and high of 10.0 except for one tank into a 40 mph headwind towing the 5th wheel, 6.7 on that one! Still pulled it at 75 mph though. Worth every penny.

03 4x4 D/A short box, 6300 miles, stock no mods, except K&N filter set up. I get 11 to 13 around town, 17/20 on the road, and towing 15k/16k mostly hills, San Diego to Glamis on I-8 I get 9/10. at leat I can maintain 55 mph going up the hills. Gary

Sorry it took so long to respond, I didn't see your post until today. Anyway, I really didn't notice any mileage increase with the exhaust, but I think the turbo spools up faster and my egts stay pretty low. I may have not noticed a fuel mileage gain because it's been cold around here and the truck usually does better in the summer. I will check it when the weather gets warmer and see if I notice any difference. My opinion, if your gonna tow, the 4" exhaust is a good idea.
