View Full Version : '03 hard starting...

I had two episodes of hard starting and I read
various posts about the possible cause. Since my
truck hasn't had the fuel filter recall work, I
decided to bring it to the dealership this morning
to arrange for the work to be done. Just my luck
that when I went to leave I couldn't start it. I
left the truck there and consented to a diagnostic
to be run at a cost of $125. So, if the diagnostic
reveals that the fuel filter was bad and since there
was a recall for the filter, am I required to pay
for the diagnostic?

Dual fuel filter setup... I like this idea a lot.
Again, I read a lot of articles about the various
kits available...etc etc. I have to agree with
the post EOM filter installation. It doesn't
seem to make sense to me to put a lower micron
filter before a higher one. I would think that
the lower micron filter(i.e. primary filter) would
filter the larger debris result with the secondary
filter not doing anything at all??? Is there a
way to monitor the fuel pressure after the
secondary filter? I think this data would give a
good indication when the filter is getting clogged
Does the Edge have this data to display? I've
heard that this Predator(?) program does this?

I'd be interested in any/all advice.

The dealer must have not removed all the air from the new fuel filter, resulting in an airlock.

This is the biggest reason why I recommend every owner learn how to change their own fuel filters.

Last October, I asked a Bosch engineer what level of fuel quality is required by the Duramax - regarding particle contamination. I was told the fuel injection system was designed to operate with a fuel filter performance of 3-5 micron at 97% efficiency.

Actually, the filter hadn't been changed yet. I
was there to make an appointment and to bring the
truck there the following day.

I'm new to the Duramax diesel engine, so I'm combing
through a lot of the posts here...good stuff. I'll
be servicing my truck from now on. The only reason
I brought it in was due to the TSB regarding the
fuel filter.
