LLY Vin

I am currently looking at an 04 or 05 Duramax. How can your tell the difference in the 04 LLY / LB7 using the VIN?

As I recall, the difference bet the LB7 and the LLY is determined by the eighth character in the vehicle identification number: 1 is LB7 and 2 is LLY. I think all the LB7 engines were exhausted by the end of the 1st quarter of 2004.
