Tech Question:
OK guys I just had the water pump replaced at 52K miles, the problem is air in the system. Can anyone give instructions on how to Properly bleed the air out? Or will it clear itself?

red sled,

jbplock posted the technique for purging the air from the coolant system in this topic on coolant filters (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=006730):

Per the Helms manual the air is purged by cycling the engine to 3000 RPMs several times with the cap off and thermostats open (engine hot). At this point I closed the cap and took ride around the block and topped off one more time. Each time the engine is cycled to 3000 RPMs, the coolant level in the expansion tank drops, then rises as the RPMS fall. When all the air is purged the coolant level in the tank doesn't drop as the RPMs are cycled.

Thanks mdrag

OK with engine HOT I removed the cap and revved it up several times. The coolant level seemed to stay constant. I replaced the cap and took it for a spin (2 miles city driving). Upon cooling down I go back to check the coolant level and notice the upper radiator hose is sucked flat. Is this any reason for concern or is this normal? I never noticed this before, but never paid this much attention either.

red sled,

I also noticed a collapsed upper rad hose (http://community.webshots.com/photo/76034334/93508928EyRPvA) on a few occasions.

Here's a topic (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=004427) I posted some time ago on this subject. A new OEM coolant cap seems to have fixed the problem...so far.
