LLY Duramax 6600 Marine Diesel
By Tullio Celano & TDP Staff

For the past few months, I have been working on a project that included installing an '04 LLY Duramax 6600 in a 1983 26' Corsa offshore race boat. The engine is mated to an overbuilt Borg-Warner Velvet Drive transmission and a Mercruiser Super Speedmaster III drive. Working through the electrical/electronic issues for such a conversion was perhaps the most daunting, but I was successful in producing what may be the first privately owned marinized Duramax 6600.

that sounds pretty cool. Where do you run your boat. I don't have any experience with the DMAX yet. Will be getting mine late October early November. I do have a lot of experience with open ocean boats and marine diesels. Primarily with Catepillar 3126 engines and some Cummins experience.

Tullio lives in western Washington state, and I suspect he runs his boat in Puget Sound or one of the area lakes.

Over the weekend, I heard from a marine diesel manufacturer who is planning to offer Duramax marine diesels using a special marine wiring harness and computer. This could be good news for those who want to retrofit this engine into other vehicles.

By the way the Cat 3126 we use in our boats puts out 470hp @ 2450 RPMs
