After I traded for my new Travel Trailer I found that I had maxed out my '00 Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab. LT, black 2wd. Loved the truck, but could not take the slow hill climbs and gas guzzle when pulling.

I was ready to take an '03 2500HD Ext. Cab, LT, 4x4, 6.0L when my small town dealer mentioned he had a new Duramax out back.

Drove it, loved it! Mayby being an old fart I like the Chevy face better than you young guys, I did like the GMC a little better.

BUT....the small town dealer beat the big town GMC dealer by almost $5000 on trade.

My 10 yr old grandson and I brought BIGMAX home last night. He is Silverado 2500HD LS Ext. Cab, 4x4, Locking Diff. Duramax/Allison, Light Pewter Metallic, gray interior.

I put a Snug Top lid on him today, molded mud flaps, and Polished Stainless MAAP nerf bars.
I have 147 miles on him tonight.

My wife hates the sound and the smell!

To me, on these cool mornings a cup of hot coffee, the quiet diesel rattle and the slight smell of diesel fumes gets the testosterone flowing.

Every Old Fart needs a 4x4 and a Diesel at least once in his life.

Life is good.

Congratulations! And welcome to TDP. I trust you will enjoy your truck as much as the rest of us and be as trouble free as most of us. Nice to have a second old fart on this page with all these young whippersnappers.

OR

If he wanted he could take some of the 5k and buy the 02' front end! :D :D :D

I won't regret it, its just a matter of whether or not u want to spend the money.

Im sorry, but I can not appsolutely stand that 03 front end. If I wasn't able to buy the 02 front end, I would not have bought the truck. Otherwise I love the truck. I just replaced the rear leaf springs with 3500 springs. Wow, that picks the rear end up. Also, bought a pait of K15 torsion bar lifters from truckinsuspension.com for $50. I had the torsion bars turned, roughened the ride too much for my taste. Untightened them back to factory, added the keys and got exactly 2.75 inches of lift in the front, maybe I will turn the bars twice, the truck it *almost* level, but boy those 3500 springs make the rear stand up, looks good though. I could clear a 285 easily, maybe even squeeze a 305, I dunno. Im still waitin for wife to finish off her roll so I can get pics developed. Oh yeah, when I bought the truck, the f350 towered about her, not anymore, the Chevy I think sits just as high if not higher with no lift kit or turned bars. Oh yeah, if anyone needs the 03 front end or anything from it, lemme know, I;ll be more than happy to get rid of them at least if not more than half price off. Not trying to sell anything, just in case anyone is in need, because it will never go back on this truck. I LOVE the raised hood.

Sorry for the long post, I just felt like talking.

Oh yeah, the stealership can't figure out everything I come through why an 03 2500hd is an 02 1 ton. hahaha
:D :D :D Gotta love this truck!

Way to go Hillbilly,

I'm up to 300 Miles on mine. Man it's hard for this old fart (58 here) to keep his foot out of it. What's this 55 mph crap in the owners manual? Must be for the Gasser's since I didn't see anything about it in the Diesel Supplement??? :D If I drove that slow on I25/I40 around Albuquerque here I would get my butt run over, many obscene gestures, and perhaps even a pistol waived at me.

Ur gonna pull the tongue off any travel trailer you handled with a 1500!

Enjoy,
Geo.

Welcome!

See this is what us single guys got going for us. This is my second D-max and I love the diesel, never would I go back to gas.

BTW, gal in my life has to love diesel, no if's, and's or but's about it. I know I found love when she says. I want a diesel also!

Welcome again, you'll love the towing. My 2500HD D-max towed great and got better mileage then my 3500.

If you think your testosterone is flowing now....
Wait until you start pulling. You'll save even more money when you throw away your viagra prescription. Just remember to settle down before getting out of the cab. ;)

Thanks to all of you, I really am prowd of this truck. By the way, it is short box and has the electronic transfer case buttons.

Can't wait to get a few miles on it, change the height of my equalizing hitch and pull the trailer up those hills down by Branson, MO.

MountainMax, that sounds like one mean truck!

I am one of the old f**ts also and love my diesel. My kids accuse me of having flash backs to my drag racing days. This truck runs better than the cars I used to drag race and is much more fun to drive. When you start towing and the truck is much quiter and smoother than the gas the wife will come around, especially when you go longer between fillups and the overall fuel bill for a trip is less than before.

BTW, someone has a saying about breakin of the Duramax. It is something like "drive it like you stole it." Don't baby this thing, just drive it. Have a great time and HAPPY DIESELING!!!!
