Intake

A wrench-turner mentioned to me that I may have some leakage around my intake. I asked him, for what reason? He said that they have had a lot of 5.3's in that have had leaks on the (passenger side) back right of the motor. He said the the bolts "leak" on the intake? I pointed out that this is my wifes truck and that It has an 8.1 liter. I don't think that they are the same. He said that he did not know. What I don't know is how "our" DMaxes are put together? Are they set up with 4 bolts, 6 or 8?

i firmly believe that they are a 6-bolt main. 4 virticle into the bearing caps and 2 horizontal through the caps. it seems that GM is doning all its engins this way. the LS1-based family is all 6-bolt as is the 8.1.

Perhaps I goofed. I was referring to the "intake" between the heads.

i appoligize, i mis-read your post. i spoke to our diesel mechanic on friday reguarding the intake issue and he responded with "havn't seen one yet" he also said that the diesel intake is put together well and we should not have a problem with it.
