Hi there,
After going from an 85 truck with mechanical glow plugs, to this 98 sweetie, it really annoys me to see the glow plugs coming on about 50 times after a cold start. I know this draws significant voltage which is not good on anything and it also kills glow plugs. Is there anything that will fix it, or at least help it?

TJ,

It's normal for the glow plugs to cycle a few times after a cold start - depending on temperature. 50 times???

If the glow system was operating abnormally, it should set a code - unless the computer is calling for the cycles.

Is your engine temperature sensor working correctly? If it is unplugged (or if there's a broken wire), the computer thinks it is -40 degrees, and could cycle the plugs a whole lot more than it needs to.

I think it cycles probably 5 times on average. My engine temp sensor is ok because it registers normal engine temps.

Thanks Jim,
