My chev dealer charges $55.00 for a lube oil and filter for the duramax. They get $18.95 for a gas engine, 6 quarts and filter. When I asked why so much, they said that the GM oil only comes in quart bottles.I asked which oil company GM gets it from, he show me the bottle and it just said GM.I just wondered if that was a fair price and if GM was in the oil business? On my bill it shows 11 quarts.

That sounds in the ball park. Our oil change prices are from 44.95 - 139.95 depending on the oil used. the low price is using just dyno oil, the middle price is using schaeffer oil which is a blend and the high price is using delvac 1

Mobil is GM's oil supplier, they make the oil that is what GM uses. for the gas engine stuff

The reason the diesel oil change is higher is because you are using a 15-40 oil which is seldom purchased in bulk at a dealer, and the filter cost is nearly double a gas engine. Plus the amount of oil it takes is double.

It might pay you to buy the oil & filter yourself, then let the dealer change it for you. IF I have a warranty problem with the truck, or it's too dang cold to crawl under it, :D and it's oil change time, I let them change it with my supplies. Runs about 8 bucks. Food for thought.

11 quarts? I thought the capacity of the Duramax was 10 quarts... unless you lose a quart to the filter, but I thought that was included in the 10...

I change the oil myself and it runs about $34.00 The filter is $16.00 and 3 gallons of Delo is $18.00 bucks. I use 10 quarts to fill her up with the filter change. 2 quarts left over to flush out the oil pan hump, before I put the oil plug back in. Keeps the oil a little cleaner. It never uses a any oil between changes.

I also thought 10 quarts,I did change it the first time I had oil everywhere.Just for the warranty issues I let the dealer do it.
Hey Schnier, from 15 miles up the road.

Gee, you guys have to pay enough to buy oil. I paid $15.00 Canadian each for a case of 12 AC Delco filters and I buy my oil in 10 litre jugs (truck takes 9.5 litres per change) for $18.99 a jug. The oil is Esso HD-3 15x40. I then take my oil and filter to a Goodyear dealer I have delt with for years and pay him $15.00 to change the oil, grease it and rotate the tires. I can help if I want or just supervise. It works out great for me. :D :D :D

10 quarts of Rotella 15w-40 $16, AC Delco PF2232 $7.25 = $23.25 if I do it myself. IF the dealer does it add 8 bucks for a grand total of $31.25.

My oil changes run between 35.00 and 39.00 at my dealership, and they hand wash my pickup too. I have a very good relationship with my dealer though.

I have changed the oil myself from day one. Dealer really likes the log book I keep on fuel used & fliud changes. Found the book himself on one of those warranty checks. Am beyond warranty now but doubt I'd ever have a problem with the dealer accepting my record.

Change oil between 5K-6K miles, using 10qts of Rotella ($15) and AC Delco filter (~$9.00), for $24 each time. Now at 45K miles and running just over 19 mpg empty, dropping 3-5 mpg, depending on trailer load, when hauling.
