exhaust manifold gaskets

Is there supposed to be exhuast maifold gaskets or should it bolt directly to the head...

Stock OEM = no gaskets. Aftermarket provides to seal old corroded surfaces. Mine [ex mans] so warped/corroded i'll need renew.
