I have noticed over the past week or so when I start my truck first thing in the morning and let it warm up for a minute or so and take off it sounds like the fan is engaged. It will disengage after getting on the highway...1 mile or so from the house and speed close to 40-45 mph. This doesn't seem right. Any thoughts?

Normal.

Every vehicle I've ever owned that had a fan clutch did this in one way or another. The design of the fan involves heavy oil as a viscous coupler. Cold heavy oil equals friction equals higher fan speeds, until it warms up. The Dmax fan is a real air mover, and the biggest I've seen on a pick up, so it will make a little more noise. My 2

Join the club. I think you'll find all the trucks fans acting the same. Really roars, huh!

Silver Bullet,

Same here. My fan is engaged the first mile or so until the fluid in the clutch warms up. Sure does make a lot of noise.

I see you are in the Plano area. I work in Plano, we need to hook up and compare trucks.

I notice mine doesn't run constantly in the morning, but will cycle on and off at somewhat regular intervals, running for 10-15 seconds at a time.

Mine just started runing the first minute or two in the morning about 2 weeks ago. Never did it before. The truck has 37,000 miles on it.
