Saw a Duramax Diesel decal on each side of the hood of a truck at Talladega this week end. Looked really cool. I stopped and asked him where he got it and he told me he had it made. He gave me the number of a guy named Froggy in Wis. I am going to get some more info about them and see what the cost is. Anybody interested?

Unless there too expensive I am going to buy them and take a digital pic. They were about 14 to 18 in. long and about a 1 1/2" tall. He had them along the crease of the hood.

Some of the old 6.5's used to say "6.5 Turbo Diesel" in the crease of the hood. This is probably where he got the idea. It would be an easy thing to make.

I ordered the decals today. They were $35. When I get them I will have pics to e-mail. If you can't wait then call Froggy at Froggy's Detailing in MN at 612-991-9153.

Well, if anyone eventually wants to send me a picture of them, I have the software & equipment to create decals up to 24" wide/tall by unlimited length. And having done this type work as a hobby for 11 years now (mostly fire dept. vehicles & some "side" work) I can tell you that the materials & labor for a 18" x 2" single color pre-taped decal (which is what I am envisioning this is) would be about $6 for two of them. Not anywhere near $35, not even if they were reflective. Maybe if they were true 24K gold leaf.

Scott...... I'm very interested in seeing your
hobby skills produce a D-Max decal for
the Chevy hoods. Please keep us updated
if you decide to take on this project.
I'll be one of your first customers!

i dont think anybody actually has one yet Alaska...

as for the stickers from Scott... I guess if you WANT to pay $35 then cool! But those stickers, once you have the equipment, are fairly easy to produce. It works JUST like a printer, except for having a razorblade for the ink cartridge. all you need to do is send Scott a jpeg or gif image and he can make a sticker for you.

And no, pullinpower, he cant make stickers of all those porn videos you have on your harddrive... :D tongue.gif

I am interested in the decal though! :D

Not to throw a wet blanket on the sticker issue (because I want some too), but GM has trademarked the word "Duramax".

Most (or all) retailers (like JC Whitney) that sell Chevy/Ford/Dodge items (hitch covers, floor mats, and stickers, etc.) that carry company logos or trademarked names are licensed to sell those items by the mark holder.

I'm not sure how GM might view it, but I imagine selling Duramax or Allison stickers for a profit might get their attention...

Guys, just go to any sign shop with a Duramax brochure, they will be able to scan it and print it on a sticker, it should not cost more that 15 or $20, it will look just like the factory 4x4 stikers we get on our trucks.

More Power and all,

I think that one of our members decided to make these at cost and as a hobby,
there is no problem. If GM decided to market hood decals, then again, there
might be a problem. I know that Dennis, owner of Kaydenco
(www.kaydenco.com) planned to make laser cut stainless steel
bottoms for his mudflaps bearing "Duramax" He said that he could
do it without copywrite issues, if he was making them at cost and
basically, giving them away with his mudflaps. His cost was going
to be about $18, but as you may have read on other string, the
company that was going to do the laser work backed out of the deal.
Maybe this string should be moved to Accessories??

Just my humble 2 cents worth.........

sorry PP, just couldnt resist!!

And yes, MP is correct about the stickers, even if GM doesnt actually make or market these actual stickers, it is still their copyrighted name. I am not sure of the ramifications of making products at cost, but I dont see how that makes it legal.

This issue would be similar to the Ducks Unlimited stickers you see. Some of the guys have their state in the background and the DU duckhead in the foreground. These arent stickers made and marketed by DU, 95% of the time. Now, I really dont think GM would actually hunt you down if you made one of these stickers, or had one made, since you will basically be doing a little free advertising for them.

The best bumper sticker that I've seen was on eBay. Somebody made them and was selling them. It had the Duramax logo in the middle. Then above that it said "Stroke this" then below the logo was "Ford Boy"

If anyone wants to pay more than $6 for the decals... I won't complain!

I will scan in the (shhh!) "Duramax" wording from a brochure (if I can find a clear picture of it, all I can find are pictures of the side emblem) and clean it up. Are people looking for just the word "Duramax" or "Duramax Diesel"?

I'm not sure if GM can trademark the word "Duramax" as Panasonic has a "Duramax" model cellular phone, and I think it's been out for a few years now...

I'm not looking to make any profit... I've never really tried to make any real "profit" from my work but it sure is cool to be driving around and see vehicles that have your own handywork on them!

When it's ready, I'll make a giant-sized version for the tailgate free for the first person that asks (you pay for mailing)!

Hi Scott,

Me thinks "DURAMAX" says it all.
Adding diesel is redundant :D

GM was granted a trademark for the word "Duramax" in 1998.

All this legal stuff is beyond me most of the time.

SDWA, what do you consider 'giant size' re tailgate emblem ?? Too big will make it look cheap. If it is 8 - 10inches by say 1.5inches consider me to be the first one to ask for it !! I would be happy to pay the mailage :D

Hey Scott,
Can you make a Duramax sticker in chrome, brushed or a color(s) that match the 4X4 sticker in back. Any of these would look great IMHO. Count me in on the non-profit sale and I may have to give you a gratuity !!! Let us know.

OK! OK! OK! I get the hint!

To avoid forum clutter smile.gif , if anyone has ANY requests, please send them to (post if you need email!). If you posted them here, email them to me again. Thanks.

On another note, if anyone has any "camera ready" type artwork of the Duramax wording, or a picture/graphic that has a "clean" outline of the letters (i.e. not a scan of the emblem) please email it to me. I can't find a brochure that doesn't have only a picture of the side door emblem.

Please....

Do not mention selling (at a profit or not) any products or graphics that contain trademarked names.... Unless you have a license from the mark holder.
