Could some one explain what an emission control service is as required in my Duramax owners manual (could not find any info, under search), and how I would perform this service myself.

I do recall putting an oil additive in my car years ago letting the engine idle for 30 min. then doing an oil change.

thanks in advance for any input.

HELP. I moved this up myself before it gets lost, some one must know what is involved in cleaning out the emissions plumbing in a diesel engine.

I think your emmission service is just an inspection to verify that the control devices are functioning properly. There really aren't any parts to "clean". How do they say, "No user serviceable parts inside."? I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Whatever you do, stay away from those oil "additives" from the olden days. Just use a good quality oil and you'll have long life to your engine.
