View Full Version : Avoiding The Air?

Almost ready to hookup my CAT filter install. With all the air issues out there, I was hoping to avoid them with the cat setup but it seems it may also have an issue. Now from all the scanning on posts I've seen and read(way too many), it seems that pre-oem have no air issues, post setups do. Since i'm already installed in a post oem position, but not yet tubed up, I wonder what the results would be if i went pre oem and if I'd avoid air collection. Has any tried this yet?

Also I'd like to hear from some of the guys that have gone the Racor post oem. Are you having the air issues as well?

Its been done with no air problems as far as stalls and no starts but....
I'm sticking with the Mega post oem and the lift pump set to 0 psi for the maximum peace of mind.
No vac no big bubbles etc.
You know by reading the air threads what I'm saying.
Thats my .02 worth. smile.gif

I've had my Racor installed post-OEM and have about 2500
miles on it. Not a bit of air. Pictures are in my signature.

As has been mentioned before, if you go pre-OEM, plan on
changing out your filter more frequently. I initially installed
a CAT, then switched to Racor pre-OEM mounted on the frame.

After working under the truck and having diesel fuel run down
my arms....... changing out filters on the frame was a pain in
the butt. Relocating the Racor under the air box is much easier
to service the filters when it's time to change.

hoot has done the same install and he also has no air or problems.

Is Greg's kit a post or pre-oem or does it allow for an either/or install??

I may give my CAT a go w/post install and see what happens. Although if I have issues it'll quickly go back to a stock setup until I find other options.
