View Full Version : New Truck Ordered

Just ordered a Chevy 2500HD 4x4 ext cab short bed w/Duramax and Allison. I've noticed that there seems to be a great variance as to how long it takes to get these trucks after they're ordered so I'll provide status as time goes by. The initial TPW is the week of 17 Feb - but the dealer did say not to bet the farm on that. He thinks maybe 8 weeks.
The selling price at this dealership is 1% over invoice if a truck is ordered and 2% over if you buy one off the lot (don't know that they had any). Seems like a good deal to me.
And a last question. Is there a GM website or phone number available that I can access to check TPW status ? I've noticed you guys are able to keep up on the build status of your ordered trucks and I want to do the same.

Thanks,

Tim B.

Hi Tim,

As you may have read on the allocation forum
that after waiting 2 months, my dealer now says that he does NOT have the allocation.
So I am back to square one.

Please let me know who your dealer is...
You can post privately if you wish
quailman@cruzio.com

Thanks

Howard

When I was looking that seemed to be the biggest factor. Some dealers will sell you one and not have the allocation for it. The one dealer I met said the allocation is "tighter than corvettes".

Also I think the factory gears up for cookie cutter models that they send out to dealer lots. I get the impression they don't build special orders until the floor plan models get sent out.

There are NO duramax trucks on our lots here, so I imagine they will be getting them with the Spring allotment.

Your correct on not to many around Rochester. Doan has a 2500HD White Pick-up. I'm up there every other week and I'll see how long it sits on the lot. When I bought mine in Sept they had 2, 2001s, and When I made the deal the 02 came in the next day. Hard to find now!

Chevy Customer Service is 1-800-222-1020.

GMC Customer Service (which you don't need, but some lurker might) is 1-800-462-8782.

As of yesterday (1/29/02) mine was still "Accepted but not yet scheduled for production". http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/frown.gif I was really hoping to have it by the end of February, but that's beginning to seem hopeless. What makes it more frustrating is that my buddy let me drive his new Silverado 2500 HD Dmax/ZF 4x4 Ext Cab Long bed yesterday. I had driven Dmaxs several times, and the ZF once, but never in the same truck. Now that I know what a sweet combination it is I CAN'T HARDLY WAIT ANY LONGER! I want my truck and it seems no closer than it was on 1/4/02 when it was accepted.

(on edit: I really miss the spell check)

Biodiesel-

Good to see another Rochesterian here. I shopped all over for about a year. The dealers were holding on to near sticker prices. Time was getting too close to order for our "BIG" Summer trip around the USA, so I got serious about ordering one. I looked at one in Scaneatles last Summer. They still had it and I got a great deal. This is my 3rd diesel. Biggest problem I see with the new engine is finding a tech to work on it. The 6.5 Burb I had was bard enough. I think when the volume of the Dmax's increase, so will the tech's. I believe I saw s company fleet with Dmax's around town but I'm not sure.

I believe GM needs to move the service of these vehicles up to their medium duty dealers. They have all the diesel knowledge, and interest. Seems like the techs at the car dealers are OTJ trained here and there. Finding one that is really "up" on diesel has been difficult. Do you have any recommendations for service?

Tim- There is a member here that works for GM and is able to track the progress for you.. Sorry I don't remember his user name.

Thanks for the info guys. It's much appreciated.
56NOMAD - I hope you got my e-mail.
FLYBOY - It's interesting you're from Lake Charles. My dealer found a truck at a Chevy dealership there that I was real interested in. But I decided to go with an order so I could get exactly what I wanted.

Meangreen -
Sticker is $40,352.00
I'm buying it for $35,255 + $352.55 (the 1%) for a total of $35,607.55
Any applicable rebate will be added in when the truck is delivered.
* You can get real close to the invoice price if you multiply the window sticker price x .875

I haven't looked to see what the Chevy dealers here had in stock. I like the GMC better and the dealer here is mostly a truck dealer and has been for years. I know several of the people in the service & parts departments. I also know the owner & his son.
If you get a truck from here, I'll be glad to bring it to you! I was hoping to have mine for Daytona Bike Week, but I guess it's not to be.

The trucks you see on the lots were ordered long ago. Once a dealer gets his initail allocation he better order a truck(s) or lose out. I was considering a HD last year and was told by several GMC dealers they had to have the order in by Mid Oct to get built sometime in Dec or later. They all said that any more would be up in the air. Now these are smaller dealers with only 2 DA allocation per year so far. So this one dealer gave me such grief about how I wanted to spec out the truck he went and ordered would he though he should get, since I refused to put a deposit on a truck he admitted may take 6 months to get built. I told order it my and I will buy. He finally got the 2 trucks in April that he insisted to me would be built in December, both identical pewter Ext cabs, no deep tinted glass and few options. As of Dec of this year he still had them.

Allrighty Now! We be HAPPY !
Just picked up my new truck Thurs nite. It took just short of 8 weeks from date of order until it got to me. The funny part is that the initial TPW was pushed out 2 weeks which meant I got the $2002 rebate as opposed to $1500.
Let the fun begin !

AND THANK YOU PONTIAC - ALL INFO WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY.

If you want to buy a truck with no hassle see my dealer. Southern Chevy in DeKalb , MS. 601-743-2686. Ask for Mitch, tell him Todd Eldridge sent you. I ordered my 02 on Sept. 19 and got it on Dec. 4. He is a small dealer but sells lots of trucks. He told me allocation was not a problem. He sold it to me at $500 over invoice and I already had invoice price when I went in. I didn't pay any money down. Just ordered and waited.

Tim B,

I ordered mine from a small GMC dealership in CT. I built the truck on 10/30/01, but my dealer only sends his orders up on Tuesdays.
Anyway I got a SON given to me on 12/18/01 and then I got mine built the week last week of January 02. It hit the lot on 02/07/02 and I took final delivery on 02/15/02.
Mine was special ordered and the dealer also ordered a 02 ext.cab in Black at the same time as mine.
Another dealer close to me also has 2 CC,D/A and 2,CC,D/A Dually's. GMBuypower Zip is 06776, The dealer is BENNETT CHEVY. My dealer is the same zip, PARK CADDILLAC-GMC.
They are out there and they will sell ya something!

Goooood Luck!!! ;)

Howdy all,

I'm a newly registered member as you can see but have been a diesel page member for a number of years. I finally bit the bullet so to speak and ordered a 2002 D/A Crew Cab 2X4 last week. I was noticing some of the pricing comments here and would have to generally concur. Mine was just over 1% over the dealer invoice. I'm up in Ontario, just outside of Ottawa and ordered it through a dealer near Toronto, about 250 miles away. Still a huge chunk of change, but you can't take it with you!
