Any one replace them?

Recommended at 15K intervals.

Dealer wants $30+ per filter!!!!

Anyone find an aftermarket one yet?

Amsoil has them - I believe part # AF1114. I couldn't find it in the on line catalogue to order. I think it is about $15. 'Got to get one - too much old socks smell.

Having just called to order, I am told they are on 4 to 6 week back order.

Your dealer must be goosing you. The dealers here in Fort Worth charge $18.00 per pair and have plenty in stock. I have purchased these myself for this price.

Just did mine at 19K. Ordered from rockauto.com. They only had one box (which comes with 2 filters in it) when I ordered, paid $18.30 for the set plus shipping.

Not that I don't like the smell but where is this filter located?

Is it engaged with re-circ a/c and fresh-air a/c?

I wish it smelled like my old 1972 Chev p/u when the heater comes on.

Almost as good as nitro-methane.

Filter is located behind a rectangular panel next to the blower motor. You have to remove a few screws in the cover over the HVAC unit. Pretty simple. About 10 minutes.

FYI, the 2003 model year no longer has the filters installed. The cavity is still present but, no filter. As of now, you will be able to install the filter on your own at your expense. GM is apparently upset because people aren't changing them when they should. I work at the plant that builds the HVAC for these trucks so I get the inside scoop.

Hope this helps.

With all this HVAC filter talk, I decided to check mine out tonight. After finding and removing the filters, I realized why my AC hasn't been working too well this summer.... The filters were about 80% plugged!! Lots of bugs, maple tree seeds, small mammals, and cottonwood tree fuzz jammed into the pleats!! The filters were doing their job though, as the heater core looks brand new.

Off to the dealer in the morning..... I'll let you know what I paid.

Can someone post the GM part number for the filter? I didn't realize it was a 15K service.

Thanks for the rockparts.com!!!!! Got mine ordered.
One reason that GM doesn't sell many is that lots of dealers don't even know about them. I tried several, and parts didn't even know they existed.

I bought two filters at Advance Auto Parts for $20. They were purolator filters.

I believe the reason they left the filters out was to cut cost. GM seems to have deleted quite a few little things on the trucks this year. A few examples: no writing on center caps,no ac filter,no pwr seat in the passenger side on sle models,no pwr lock switch in rear of full size suv`s. Nicer floormats in pickups this year.

ccds ,

Wow,
What's that in USA green backs $38 something dollars?

I here Amsoil has them also for around $18 bucks...... I paid $20/21 bucks at the dealer, not to make it "STINK" any more for ya but that's to much, I would get it through Amsoil if I was you up in North Country next time.......That hump of a screw is tough, out and back in,you are correct.......

dieseldealer,
I also noticed they took the chrome off the outside mirrors and the molding stops on the cab instead of continuing on the bed to the rear wheel. I think if I had an '03 I'd be ordering the extra molding pieces for an '02 to put on the bed. Especially with a long bed.

$22.59 plus tax from the dealer. They did not have them in stock on Saturday, so they first came in this morning.

Thanks for all of the info and P/Ns guys, this is great! I'll have to take a look at mine, see how clogged they are...

Someone mentioned they took off some things from the 03 trucks. It seems to make sense. Someone who buys a LOT of vehicles told me the first yr of any vehicle, they're still sorting out bugs. The second yr, bugs are gone, best yr to buy. All following yrs, they're removing a little content (like 5%) to cut costs until they discontinue the model. Little things like split loom tubing, insulation, screws, etc get shorter and fewer. Just a fact of corporate beancounting/career building.

This would explain why models get discontinued despite decent sales numbers. They get re-introduced and the proces starts over.

Back to vent filters... ;)

Regards, Steve

Replaced mine today. Lotsa crud in there. I would imagine that it was restricting flow. I will make it a twice a year maintenance thing anywho. That interior screw was nasty to get back in. I did notice that the factory job was not complete and tight like my job. 26k miles and no dirty sock smell now!!!

Micheal Tomac,

1) What dealer did you acquire them at?

2) What did of intake setup do you have? Homebrew?
