I test drove a Dodge Hemi the other day; as my wife wants one. It was a light truck, a 2003 1500 regular cab, short bed. It had a K&N air filter and flowmaster exhaust. Only had 17,000 miles. It sounded awsome but that was about it. After driving it for about five minuets I wanted back in my truck. Even as heavy as my truck is, it still handled better and drove better than the dodge.

I expected more from the HEMI. Either this one was a lemon or these things are not making close to the advertised HP. I often wondered how the HEMI's performed, guess now I know.

No tyet, but you got to rev the snot out of them to experience the power... great truck engine..

Make a lot of noise, lets you think your going fast..
The 4.8 in my wife's K1500 has more grunt.

A friend has a 2003 1/2 ton hemi. He's put about $5000 into the engine and it still doesn't impress me. He brags about his "14 second truck". His power only comes in a real narrow power band, near the red line. A lightly mod'd current Diesel of any brand will stomp it. His tires will outlast mine by a long shot. He pulls a 2500# trailer and it falls flat.

Sounds nice, but that's about it.
We have a phrase around here that covers it. "Nice mufflers". Or "All that and a bag of chips".

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

Hemi's are easy to wax with a Duramax and taste good too! :D

Ditto, they are fun to eat for lunch. Had one follow me back to work to find out what ate his lunch. :D

I noticed when I test drove that truck that it had to rev to redline to make any power. It also had a tick to, not like the dmax tick- MUCH louder, sounded like something in the valvetrain.

I drove a 5.3 sierra a while back. I'll see if I can talk the wife into test driving one of them. It seemed to have alot more grunt to it than that HEMI, and would prolly get better mpg as well.

Likely, my wife's K1500 xcab 4.8 gets 20 mpg highway, in the green mountains, with the AC cranked...!
