rear Flange , drivers side # 10237141

finally found the Casting number ( I think )
Not easy for a 66 year old F**T

It is in a 96 K3500 and has factory Dual Thermostats and 1/2 inch oil lines.

Questions:

Is this a NO oil spray eng.

Is it a Good casting Block.

Bolts etc ( where cracking occurs )

Compared to other blocks, can you rate this one.

John : Is this the " 141 " block you referanced.

That is the 141. No oil spray on this one. Same as my 96 had.

I think you will find that aside from some "less desireable" units (early oil spray blocks) there isn't really a "best" block except probably the newest one.

Thanks John: I am retired and do a lot of traveling
with a truck camper. Was concerned about " sudden Death "

Have had the oil analysis and also the filter analysis, all good, ( Some alu in filter, but
was told ( normal ).

Guess I'll try for 200k miles, ( 114k now. )

I have a buddy that had a "141" in his '96. It has the little oil cooler lines, no spray holes, and single stat housing. It recently ripped the second to the rear main bearing cap, and a similar sized chunk out of the block. This was after 200,000+ miles and one overhaul... It is getting replaced with a early vintage "599".

Why did he overhaul it the first time?

Was it " Modded " ?

Did he pull heavy loads ?...

It was overhauled at 190K because of excessive piston slap in the #8 hole. It has a Heath reflash and water injection system as well as a Holset turbo. It is used to pull heavy loads, 2-3 antique tractors on a tandem dually GN trailer weighting around 30,000+ gross. IIRC it has the newer 1 peice flywheel so that should probably be ruled out as a cause of the failure, and the balancer was new with the rebuild.
