View Full Version : Truck bed?
Has anyone seen a Royal Summit utility body? I really like the way they look! looks soo factory. It looks like this would beat the heck out of any ol'e toolbox. I like not having to climb around looing for stuff, not to mention being abel to use the "entire" bed. ----- Tell me what ys think of it. If anyone has one of these things, please let me know how good/bad it is.
--------->>>>> www.royaltruck.com..? maybe www.abctruck.com

It looks pretty neat to me  , but it also looks like they only sell the whole truck  , and I don't need another truck  By the way, www.abctruck.com is the right address, that other one is something else entirely.

I have seen quite a few up here. In Soldotna, Alaska at Hutchings Chev they have a pewter crew cab D/A with one one it on the lot.

I live a couple of blocks from ABC-Washington DC (they're actually located in Clinton, MD). If you have any particular questions, I can swing by and ask them.
Hey Charlie,
I had asked a GMC salesman about them. He said that you could get the bed alone or order the truck that way. However, he said that it would cost about 5k or so ( bite me) for the conversion and that it "only" cam in long bed form. Can you ask those fellas if they will be making a "shotbed" model and how much it will cost? --- It would appear that a shortbed would be had by quite a few of us.
Thanks,
Richard

As the SeaBees say, Can Do, Will Do, Glad To.
Have had 3 of these things installed for customers through Monroe Truck Equipment in Wisconsin. Sell them through at cost because they are so expensive to begin with ($6k installed at Monroe). Other than the cost, haven't had any complaints on them. No leaks, squeeks, etc. Had one guy try to install it himself and finally took it to Monroe to finish it up (some minor mods with rear bumper/hitch to deal with). No plans for a shorty yet, might come out with rolltop for cargo box in near future.
---- I am silly tongue.gif . I would have bought a long bed dullie but I had issues with two things... Rims and the fact that it would not go into a carwash.
If they make a "shorty", it's mine :D . I wonder why they don't? Heck, they could make one minus the front door and I would buy it. How many people buy a standard bed? Seems like good business to build more for less, than less for more  . I believe that people buy that bed for looks more than function. You could buy a "real" utility body cheaper, stronger and with more space than the Summit bed. So why not build to suit the need? I see the need of a handy man or a job foreman in a "shorty" style.

Thanks for the replies

My father has a 2001 crew cab with the summit body uses it every day very tough and well built. Only problem it adds about a 8 inches to the truck and the factory hitch will not work. But we had a local trailer maker make me a custom hitch which i have towed 23000 lbs. including the trailer. I have a 2001 crew short bed and i am buying a body and shorting it to fit a 6 foot, Show you pics when i finish. The body looks factory when you buy it add some body molding 4x4 sticker and silverado and from 100 feet cant tell the differece.

they dont make the six foot because of fed law the law says 60 / 40 weight split. I have an easy solution make the fornt of the bed out of 1 inch steel. Never bend and wall la you have a 60/ 40 weight split
:D :D :D Please show me the steps to "shorting" the bed. See my sig and shoot me an e-mail.

Shure thing I havent started yet not much more for the 5200 for the body. I have measured and not shure but when I finish hopefully soon Ill let you know
I looked into this bed when I was looking at a new Ford truck. It was a $ 6K+ option for the dually bed. But the dually is only made for Fords. The GM bed is only for SRW. At least from what I see.

P.S If You see my truck in Flemington look for the Flag in the back window, there is a clone of my truck around. I've passed it a couple of times and it was exen pulling a G/N horse trailer. I was sitting at the bridge by my house and had to rub my eyes, I thought my trailers were all at home and the wife had truck at work. Oh well so much for a unique truck, it was nice while it lasted.

IndigoDually---where did you get the Back Rack? And, if it is mounted, is there room for an over the rail tool box with it in place?
