View Full Version : Is NAPA selling Snake oil?
Went into local NAPA yesterday to pick up a replacement cabin air filter. On back order out of Houston, $15.99 when available. Anyway, while he is looking it up on the computer, I see a stack of photocopied "Tornado" ads. I ask him if they sell these in the store, he says yes. Then proceeds to tell me how great they are. Tells me a guy with a "diesel truck" got an extra 2 miles per gallon using one. I say "interesting", but I'm thinking you're FOS. Am I being too skeptical? I'm leary of any product from an infomercial. Does anyone here believe this $69 tin can does anything? I should have asked what brand of truck it was, but I still don't believe it.

There is the POSSIBILITY of some kind of gain in a non-turbo motor BUT, if the air is packed in then I don't care what kind of swirl is added the air is compressed and thats that.

Oh yes, they work fabulously!
The trick is that you must install it so that it swirls in the same direction that the turbo spins, or it won't work.
I haven't installed mine yet, but I'm already getting an extra 10mpg and 20hp, just having it sitting on the seat. :D
Speaking of snake oil, all of these auto parts stores carry a wide variety of snake oils in the form of oil/fuel additives, waxes, etc.
I just realized that all of the oil, filters, fuel additive, tranny lube, gear oil, polish, and leather protectant I use do NOT come from the local auto parts store. A real eye opener!

Boy, I hate to admit this, but I bought one several years ago. I have a friend who bought on of the riser devices for his 5.3L. Same results. Essentially, nothing. Like most things, I have made plenty of mistakes to remember and learn from. Oh well, at least I feel like it may do someone else some good to pass on my bad.
TxDoc,
Somebody had to do it......If you watched the INFO commercials awhile back it was the best thing since SALTED PEANUTS with the shell on, how do they do that anyway? I went to a minor league game the other night and bought some peanuts to go with a beer, shells on and they were salty as hell.... Dam good.....What do the soak them in salt water?Where's Mr. Planters, AKA PEENUTGRWER?Can you send me a bag of them? I think it was pretty dam cool.....I got to get out more...Well that tells you how much attention them pieces of crap should get ,one dam line on this post.... tongue.gif tongue.gif
