Hey Guys,
I was at the dealership this morning getting some warranty work done. I told the service writer that I know pretty good that I wanted up grade my tires in the fall with a different size. He tells me that you have to keep the stock tires on it or it will confuse the computer and will screw up the shift points. I talked to my tire guy and he say no way. Can somebody give me a straight up answer? Thanks

My opinion only; that's a bunch of hogwash. I've gone round and round about this with a few of the tire shops around here as well. I put on 295 BFG's on my truck at about 3000 miles. The difference in the stock 245's to the 295's is about 3 inches, give or take on the overall height. Granted I don't tow stuff at the max gvw, and if you do, I would anticipate a little decrease in performance. I've had NO problems pulling a 10K stock car trailer, sleds, etc. with my truck. In fact, my truck was a tick faster than my bud's 03 with 265's on, about a truck length, to the cut-out of 96 mph. Long story short- don't worry about it unless you're towing to the max.
My .02 only :D

My dealership agreed to put BFG 265's on for me and buy back the firestones, of course this was done as part of the "dickering" process. Who knows what would have happened after the truck was already bought. :D

I went with 285's and the my dealer actually reprogrammed my truck to better match my tires size. My Odometer is still off, but my ABS and Tranny are now programmed correctly to the larger tire size. Honestly, after it was reprogrammed, I couldn't tell a difference in the shift points until I pulled my 5'er, then I could really noticed an improvment! I think the stock ABS with the 245's was too sensitive, I really liked the change when I put the 285's on, however, now that it's been reprogrammed for the larger tires the over sensitive brakes are back. :(
I asked the dealer if they were allowed to do this reprogramming? The "Offical" answer was " what reprogramming?" The Tech II programmer did not list the 285's, it only listed 245, 265 and 30" tire sizes, so I went with the 30" tire program since it's almost the exact size as the 285.
In Summary, it all comes down to finding a good Service manager that is both realistic and practical about the tire size issue.
;)
FisHn2DMax, my dealer in Vt. sells 265/75-16 tires for replacements on the 2500HD and will mount, balance, and install them for you. I don't know about even larger sizes.
Doubt that dealer would have the chutzpah (a fine New York City word) to then deny a warranty claim based on the fact that you were wearing oversized tires that he had sold you.

Hey Guys,
thanks for the reply. I have been doing business with that dealer and my tire guy for 12 years and your replys have re enforced what he told me. Thanks again.I will probably go with Copper tires, I have had very good luck with them. If anybody is interested in the Michelins let me know. I think they were put on the truck just before i bought it and have only put 1000 miles on them so far. :D
