View Full Version : Silverado Seat Fabric Issues

The first thing I did when I got my '03Dmax was to put my son's car seat in the back and take him for a ride.
When I got back I noticed the car seat had permanently scarred the gray truck seat fabric. Like it crushed the nap of the fabric.
This is the same car seat that was in the back of my '93 silverado and NEVER left any marks on the truck seat fabric and the same seat that we swapped into our Toyota where it NEVER damaged the Toyota car seat.
So I spoke with the dealer who says he's seen it before and suggested I buy a slip cover for my truck seat so it does not do any more damage.
My question is why should I do that when Chevy advertises these HD truck as the one the construction workers jump into with their tool belts on and go over 4 ft jumps on their way to work?
I spoke with GM directly and they are looking into whether other people are having their seats similarly damaged by routine use.
Anyone out there had any problems?
My truck has the LS trim package. the seats are a gray velour type fabric.
My dealer thinks I've abused my truck. All I've done is try to use the same car seat I used for years in my last Chevy Silverado.
I've spent $45k for a "heavy-duty" truck that can't take the "abuse" of a baby seat....go figure

I got the same thing going on with my back seats.
Yep, same problem here. I try to reduce the problem by putting a towel under the carseat. The towel seems to cushion the sharp edges of the seat. I'm thinking about getting a thin piece of foam and using that instead of the towel.
The towel also serves as a catch point for the messes the kid sometimes makes....
Later...
Same thing here. Car seat left a permement mark and the drivers seat edge is showing the same type of wear from getting in and out...

I have leather and still see the wear for my kids seats. I have put a piece of 3/4" plywood under each one to keep from "denting" the seats any more. I have a mat under the plywood to keep it from scuffing the seats. It takes forever to put or pull a seat with the mat, board, the safety line behind the seat and getting the belt tight. I have the same rub marks from getting in and out of the front as well.
I have the same problem. I don't have a car seat but I carried a plastic file box in the back seat for work and it left marks that won't go away. I have the light tan interior. Let us know if GM will do anything for you, maybe we can get something done also.

Same problem here. We've got enough people here to make a formal complaint with GM. Anyone know how to get ahold of corp. GM to file some kind of group complaint to see if they will do something to solve the problem?

I had my first conversation with GM about this and wasn't very encouraged or impressed by the help.
He agreed to see if there were other similar complaints on file with GM and he is supposed to call me back Monday Sept 8.
I will post my GM contact's name and phone number here Monday as well (it's all at work)so everyone who is interested (just plain mad is more like it) can call him directly and we can get these complaints all chanelled through the same person.
I have the same problem in my '02... Interestingly, although I have a pad/blanket under both the infant and booster seats, the wear marks are still there and have crushed the pile. I am not too concerned about it but was surprised by the lack of integrity the fabric has.

The GM representative I am working with on this issue is Ray Ebler he can be reached in Florida at 866-952-4368 ext 58706
Perhaps we can get some action on this problem if he gets enough complaints.
I will be speaking with him today again myself.

This what gets me mad. I did the same thing after I marked up the passenger seat and moved it to the middle seat with a pad......it still ruined the fabric even through the blanket.

We "had" that problem on our 2000 Tahoe. I took it in, and they replaced the seat covers, front and back under warranty!
I didn't tell them about the car seat, I just told them I don't know what the hell is going on, but I wanted it fixed under warranty. No problem. Two weeks later the new covers came in, they replaced them, and now we use a towel under the car seat and we have no more problems.

The GM rep that I had been talking to never did call me back and his voice mail box is always full.....so today I started over with a new GM rep who basically said he would look into it. He promised to keep his mail box empty and return calls promptly....His phone number is 866-952-4368 extension #58750 Their call center is in Florida.
And yes, I have the same problem. If you have a crewcab and you put the back seats down and then put anything on top of them other than air, the floor brackets leave marks on the upper seatbacks.
BUT!
I did find a fix! smile.gif You need to get a hold of a Eureka EnviroSteam vapor cleaner (the little bright yellow one - it has no suction, just steam!) You can use the 1" round plastic bristle brush with the steam going & scrub/rake it back into submission - it raises the fabric right back up like it never happened (at least on mine it did...)
Yes, it sucks that the fabric is so wimpy, but at least there is a way to fix it. Would be nicer not to have to do it at all.

I didn't like the fabric either. Now I have leather seat covers. Had I knowen about this I would have gotten an LT. It was 900 for the front seats and about 400 for the rear. I only did the front seats for now and the place that installed them said I can get the rear done anytime.

I have an `02 with the same problem with seats. I bought the truck used from a friend and wasn't sure what caused this until I remembered the car seats he had in the back seat.

Still waiting for the second GM rep to return my calls on this issue
ditto on the fix though. Since my last post the Chevy salesman explained that a fine wire brush will bring the nap back (almost) to normal with a little brushing.
I did it and it helped but din't make it go away.
Same beef though, who wants to take a dog brush (or a steam cleaner)to their car seats every time something hard comes in contact with them.
