View Full Version : How "HOT" is your Valentine.....
Don't be silly it's not February......
Your V1......
I know mine is working double time but it gets pretty dam hot....I noticed the other day when I launched and it flew off the dash and I picked it up and put it back......I would like to hard wire....Where???But it needs lots of circulation ventilation if it gets that hot.....
Has nothing to do with defrost either I thought that but I wasn't defrosting or heating nothing.....

Hey Mackin.... Havent noticed the heat on my V1, but I have mine hardwired and mounted right beside the mirror mount. It actually sits right above the left side of the mirror. Wire hangs down with about 3 inches of slack so I can take it down as needed....
mackin,
The V1 does get hot and I've accepted it as normal - yours probably cooks from all the activity ;)
I also hardwired mine by tapping into 12V from the lights in the overhead console - pop off the blank cover and the wires are right there. Since I always move the V1 between vehicles, I like to use the visor mount. I snaked the wire from the overhead console above the headliner exiting the hole in the headliner left behind after installing the lighted visor kit from JP Customs. There is a snap in trim cap that covers this hole and the wire exits nicely - right at the leading edge of the visor.

Mac -
I have mine hard wired to the fuse box by the drivers door. I ran the wire up the A-pillar and above the headliner and out thru the overhead console right by the V1. It is mounted on the DS visor as close to the center as possible. I cut up a black koozie (using about a third) to level it. The foam koozie is stuck btwn the visor and V1...the koozie is very stealthy...you don't notice it unless you are looking for it!
As far as temp...it is hot, but it doesn't worry me as my previous POS RD ran hot too!

I drive fast.... Actually, I drive really fast.
Of the detectors that I am familiar with, Valentine is the best.
I'd love to put a valentine in my truck... here is the problem... I have a ARE shell on my truck.
So the rear sensors would have to sense thru the rear window of the truck, the front window of the shell and then the rear window of the shell. Both rear windows are tinted pretty heavily.
Does Valentine make a unit with remote sensors?

Yupper!
As a matter of fact, you could mount the V1 in the grill, mount the remote receiver inside the topper and use a remote indicator in the cab.
The least expensive/best reception method is to keep your V1 as high up in the windshield as possible and use a remote receiver for the rear high in the topper as well.

I'm hard wired to the overhead console. I tapped into the overhead light power (turns off after 10 minutes so I never touch the Units power switch). I used the standard visor mount and slid the clip up under the headliner just to the left of the mirror and right of the drivers visor. Neat, clean and effective, it's high enough the window tint obscures it's location from folks looking into the truck. No noticeable decrease in sensitivity.

How hot? I have two V1s. One in the wife's ride
and one in mine. Never noticed they get very hot
from being on but do get hot during the day from
the sun. Next time I drive somewhere at night I'll
have to see if they get noticably hot.
