Should I change it early like a new engine, or do my usual once a year Mobil 1 change?

Yes, you should. Most don't. It is a very good practice. I suggest a fill and short change interval with cheap Dex III, and a final, long term fill with higher quality fluid, like M-1. A good schedule would be 1000 miles on original fill, then 5000 miles on second fill, then the long term fill. It may sound extreme to some, but will ensure that all the assembly contaminants and new wear metals are flushed out. I have gotten uncanny high mileage out of my auto trannies, and I give credit to my initial treatment, as described above.

Your tranny does not have a filter. The so-called filter on the pick-up tube is really nothing more than a strainer, meant to keep out large chunks of stuff. Add-on external filters would only improve the fluid condition between services.

Thanks , this makes sense. Thinking dual spinons at framerail...
