Can I buy a XM radio reciever and hook it into my stock head unit to get the pure digital sound? Or am I going to have to use an FM modulator or replace my head unit in order to get the digital sound?

I know you guys answered my question about using the stock head unit and a CD changer. And that wasn't a problem. But didn't know about this.

Thanks!!

Can't do that & get the digital sound from stock unit. Will have to go for the whole upgrade. I personally have the XM in my truck ( a pioneer system) and have went thru 2 tuner's so far. I had to send it off to get repaired. You may want to look at the other satellite service (Sirrus) thats out there, from talking to some installers they say its a better system. Maybe iam just having bad luck with it. But i really do enjoy the satellite radio.

I have been in contact with radiosandmore.com about this. They said as of right now, no XM system will let you tap right into the stock head unit. But the new Delphi unit is coming out with something that will let you get pure digital sound from you stock head unit in a month or so. SO i sit and wait impatiently or figue out how to eliminate the interference between my CB and XM radio (fm modulated) without turning one off.

I have XM in my truck and I still have the '02 stock head unit. For this setup, you have to buy an XM antenna and the Pioneer tuner that mounts behind the rear seat.

The signal goes from the antenna, to the Pioneer tuner, to the antenna connection in the dash head unit. I listen to 89.1 to receive the signal and use the handheld controller (mounted where my cassette used to be in the console) for XM control.

The Pioneer box is about $170, the antenna about $70, and the install was $50. The sound quality is still great, but perhaps just one notch below the CD-quality of the XM dash recievers. Since I'm no audiophile, the setup was perfect for my needs.

POS,

I think your setup is FM Modulated. If it taps into the antenna then it is. I looking for something that hooks right into the head unit to get pure digital sound. I have the FM modulated SOny system and I am getting alot of interferecne between it and my CB.

Why not use the RCA plug adapter from jpcustoms.com?

This allows you to use the factory aux input to hook up the XM receiver.
