A few weeks ago I posted that I had installed the Smartire System
www.smartire.com
in the wheels of my fifth wheel (none on the truck, yet). I installed the display unit in the overhead console. I've only made one trip with the rig and find that the display unit is not picking up all four wheels on the FW very reliably. Perhaps I'm getting some shadowing or shielding of the 430 Mhz signal in this overhead location? Being the inquisitive person that I am, I think I'll take the receiver apart and see if I can put a better antenna on the unit. I'm sure it's just a small trace on a PC board (not too optimum for 430Mhz). I'll keep you posted on the progress.
When a tire does "report in" it's really neat seeing the pressure and temperature real time! I've been very lucky over the years with trailer tires, but sure have read some horror stories over on rv.net. Think I'll email Smartire also and see if they have any suggestions.
