Living in Canada sucks! Thanks to our nazi CRTC we are not allowed to have american programming here in canada without canadian content. Therefor to the best of my knowledge, trucks shipped to canada can not have xm :(

Does anyone know what extra parts are needed to add (if possible) factory xm to the factory radio? I would really like to keep it factory if possible. Is there anyone with the xm option who would want to swap + cash with me? Can I order the parts from the general? I need XM!

Thanks guys. I think this is a long shot but worth a try.

Max,

If you an find out what all the parts are get a hold of a reputable junk yard across the border, have the do a search for a total truck and get the parts there. It will take a while since this is a fairly new set up. Also, if you can get the part numbers you can probably order them from someone like gmpartsdirect.com.

Good luck

Max Power...I'm with you. I have searched around and found nothing but haven't called GM about it. I'd be willing to make the trip over the border to get it done.

BTW, not an expert but I believe the CRTC just carries out orders. It's our ministry of culture and other politicians that pass acts allowing this nonsense.

GM was supposed to be including DAB radios (in Canada) for 2003 (it was in their brochures)instead of XM but then they started looking at cost cutting measures and axed this initiative. Oh well. I really wanted XM anyway.

If you figure anything out, PLEASE let me know. I'd rather not go 3'rd party and lose the steering wheel controls.

They have the portable units that you could use in the truck and in your house, and you could probably order one online.

I spoke with my dealer's accessory guru back in March, and he had no information about any factory kit to add XM after the truck was built. His only option was to get an aftermarket kit. I didn't want to do this for the sames reason as most of you. You want the full use of the steering wheel controls and the CD quality, not something degraded by an FM modulator or (yikes!) a cassett adapter.

Last week I spoke with a tech at JPCustoms and he says they are working on an adapter that would allow the use of an aftermarket receiver, with RCA outputs, to use the connector on the back of the Bose head. They've been waiting for the supplier to get them the product and expect it maybe by the end of July.

That said, he also let slip that GM may be readying a dealer installed XM kit that would be just like the production installation and allow the use of all factory controls. Has GM heard the rumble of discontent? Time will tell.

I'm just Wing'n'it

Thanks everyone. I am not interested in it unless it is fully integrated like the factory system. Wing'n'it thanks for giving me some hope. smile.gif

Have you thought about looking/asking at some wrecking yards in the US? I'm sure that there are some trucks totaled that have the XM radios in them. Might be able to get the radio setup out of a wrecked truck. Of course activating the thing might be another story.

I thought socialism was supposed to be good for the populace - funny it never seems to work out that way...
