F.Y.I.,

Thought I'd pass this on for those that have Bilstein shocks.

Has anyone tried Rancho's RSX Reflex shocks on a 2500HD? I've heard good things about the Bilsteins and I am leaning that direction. But, I'm curious whether the Ranchos might supply a bit more damping. The price is about the same.

Thanks,
TC

RenoDmax,

Contrary to the info you got from the source, the instructions supplied with my Bilstein front shocks clearly indicated a torque value for the top front mounting nut -> 20 N-M  That is TWENTY Newton-Meters or 15 lb-ft - which by the way is the same as the torque spec indicated in the Helm manuals for the OEM shocks.

I can tell you that the bushings compress quite a bit using that torque value.

Mr. Bill's email response:

"...What you want to do on the front is make the bottom eyelet tight and the top pin mount you want to crush the bushing just enough to keep the shock in place and from moving, no more."

IMHO is pretty lame and irresponsible

Mr. Bill's response for the rear shocks:

"...On the rear, both should be eyelets and just make those tight by hand."

Tight by hand??? Whose hand? Wrench tight? Ratchet tight? Is that a 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" ratchet, 18" breaker bar hand tight?

FWIW, I used the torque values listed in the Helm manual for the remaining shock fasteners on the front and rear:

Front lower bolt (4WD) 80 N-M (59 lb-ft)
Rear upper and lower bolts 95 N-M (70 lb-ft)

Good luck.

"Whose hand?"...hopefully not the same gorilla at the factory responsible for putting on the oil filters!!! :D

I second Silver Bullet! :D I just ran my tight with my 1/2" impact gun. I did the top of the fronts till it looked right. Not very scientific, but I my torque wrench has grown legs reciently.
