I have a problem with my a/c. First when I bought the truck new in 10/03 the a/c never seemed to blow very cold compared to the other gm trucks I have had. That being said, the other day the compressor croaked, the clutch broke, you could spin the a/c compressor with no resistance (not the drive pulley but the clutch shat). I replaced the compressor ($620) and replaced the orrifice tube which only had a little bit of metal on it, and went to have it recharged.

Well the guy put evacuated the system and started to put some refrigerant in got about a pound in and the low side pressure went up to 70 pounds and the high side went up to 350 and was jumping back and forth between 350 and 400 psi. The system was blowing semi cold air like it has in the past. He said this wasnt right and evacuated the system. HE didnt know what to do he thought there was a restriction in the high side. I pulled the lines off and blew air through them without any problem.

I didnt replace the accumulator but and going to. Any idea what could be the problem. Like I said the a/c never worked right from day one.

well this should be a warranty issue and shouldn't cost you a dime. that being said, I don't really have any further info on your problem, sorry.

If the compressor has an internal relief valve, it's possible that there was some kind of restriction, and the internal relief valve was dumping the discharge gas back into the suction. This would explain the fluctuations and high suction pressure. I don't know if these automotive air conditioners have an internal relief or not (I imagine that they do), but we do in larger compressors.
