View Full Version : High Idle shuts down on it's own

Well, after way to much effort, I have my high idle working with the remote start and via a switch. Now, I have used it the last two days and it idles up, so life is good, right? Wrong, it shuts down itself down in a couple of minutes and returns to normal idle. Has anyone seen this or know what's up?

Thanks,

Maverick

Boy Chris.....you just can't win, can you! I suggest getting out the pistol and shoot it.

I am stumped.

Chris,

Were you able to get the high idle to work properly without the remote start?

Where/how are you getting 12V to the HI switch? It may be worth hooking a meter to your 12V lead and observe what happens? Could it be the 12V circuit you are using times out after so long or for some reason drops the voltage, and in effect shuts off the HI?

Just a few thoughts - I'm running out of ideas here....

Mav, I can't afford to shoot it. It still runs, even cold. This is a minor problem.

Mdrag, Yes, the high idle worked without the remote start hookup, but I never really ran it for a long time before I hooked up the remote start. I did go turn on the switch and it shut down. I turned it on with the remote start and it shut down. The lights were still on, so the remote start was still giving power (in theory). I might cut the remote start out and try it just to make sure that has nothing to do with it. Good idea on the voltage check too. I'll do that. Should have some time in the next week or two to just sit and watch it.
It is really cool when it works.

Chris,

On the 2001 trucks, since there is a STANDY speed with the cruise control switch ON, the HI should work with the remote start just by leaving the HI and CC switches on. When you use remote start, it should go into the STANDBY speed...at least I think...in theory...

My HI is wired to a circuit that is not 'hot' when remote starting - it isn't until I turn the ignition switch that this circuit gets 12V. It is an easy fix, but one of those things that I've not got around to fixing...

These electrical systems can do some crazy stuff. As an example, my after market alarm started going off after sitting for a short time. Driving me nuts...then I realized ...I had hard wired my V1 to the overhead console lights - up to that point I was using the cig lighter outlet and was used to turning the V1 on and off since those outlets are hot all the time.

I started leaving on the V1 since the truck shuts off the power after about 15 minutes...Bingo - when the BCM was turning off the power to the V1, the alarm sensed the voltage change and would go off.

chris...how or what did you use when you tied it into the remote starter.......if you used the alrm wire you said you were going to....it only arms for a few seconds and then shuts down again so that may be where your problem is.....I know we have hashed all these things thfough and again I don't know what you all tried so your going to have use something with constant power.......dmaxster
