Does anyone have this toolbox/fuel tank combo from Northern Tool? It lists 41 and 60 gal for shortbox models but no different part numbers.

---------------------OR---------------------

Would you pay triple the price and get a Transferflow?

Mav,

Check this link - it lists the separate part numbers and a way better price: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/LLCategoryDisplayView?storeId=6970&langId=-1&catalogId=4006970&PHOTOS=on&TEST=Y&productId=596197&categoryId=0

I looked at these in person - looks good. They're made by RDS in Florida. I've read some posts, can't remember if here on TDP or on RV.NET where the RDS tanks were spoken well of. They come as a tank only, no valve, sender, lines, or anything. You're on your own to find that stuff.

I'm in the same position - liking the TransferFlow product but the Northern price. Why don't you buy one and install it first, then send me the part numbers and installation tips? :D

Thanks for the link. That is a much better price.

Does anyone know if you can buy just the install kit with the Trax-UFS unit from Transferflow?

This would save some major money. I couldn't find a link for though.

Maverick, I have the Northern (RDS) 41 gallon combo tank and so for really like it...seems like good quality. I haven't used it much yet..I'm transferring from that tank into my filler neck/OEM tank via a fuel pump. The set up is just slightly lower than the side rails, which is what I wanted, and I have it setting on a 3/8 inch bed mat. I think it is worth the $. Send me an email directly (see my sig) if you need the part # and direct RDS contact person.

Can you give me a little more info on how your fuel transfer setup. Sounds like a nice setup (and I like the price!)

here is one of the many I found by using the search button for tanks:

http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000785&p=

there were a lot more if you would like to take a look just click on search and enter the word
"tank"

I have the 41 gal toolbox tank combo from Northern and really like it. I bought the installation kit from Auxiliary Truck Accessories in Garland, TX. http://www.auxiliarytruck.com/products.asp

Look under PRODUCTS and then Tanks and Pumps then go to parts. Kit comes with instructions to hook it up. If you are in the area they will also install it.

I bought the tank and kit and installed it myself for under $800.00 where everyone else wanted more than that for the tank. Sure like the range this gives me and also the space for oil, tools, jacks, etc. Good value.

TBC,
Excellent job my man. I see they have a specific kit for the Duramax. Are the directions good and specific or are they generic?. Looks like the way to go. Got any pics?

ccds,
Where did you get the install kit for your tank? Pump, wires, and such?

It was all custom made here in Calgary.

The tool box/fuel tank combo that are in my picture album was originally out of a Dodge diesel pick up that I had. I was able to convert it to fit the last 3 Duramax's I had.

The box/fuel tank was custom made out of B.C. the company has since gone out of business.

The fuel pump, electronic shutoff, manual shut off and brass fittings are available from any auto supply place.

Sorry I can't be more help....

The directions are specific and are easy to follow. The hardest part is cutting the stainless steel tube. Don't drill holes in the frame. There are holes that can be used. My son and I installed the tank and hooked everything up in about 4 hrs. Calibrating the gage float is no big deal. Instructions include that. Just be sure you have good ground connections. I mounted the switch inside a "pocket" on the left side of the dash where something is suppose to be mounted. Mine was empty. Switch is out of the way and was easy to mount.

I am away from home and don't have my camera so I can't get any picts right now. I like the rig very much. I filled up today and took 60.1 gal in both tanks (67 total when both are full) and got sticker shock. It was $98.01 but depending on driving I can run almost a month unless I go home for the weekend. I can make the 700 mile trip and drive a week or more to work afterward. Average 14.7 to 15.1 MPG.
