I am looking for a good way to store my winching cables and survival gear. It needs to be weather proof and lockable. This is stuff that I need to keep in my truck at all times and is fairly valuable.

I dont want to lose the use of my bed length. I dont mind giving up the area infront of my wheel wells or the area under my rear seat. I have a 2002 crew cad dmax.

I might build a bumper that will have some storeage but will still need more space. Maybe I should build front and rear storage bumpers.

Any ideas would be real helpful.

Thanks
Trent

I found rubber maid boxes just the right size to slide under the rear seats in my truck. I keep towing supplies and lube etc in them. I don't know about winch cables but for what will fit there, the boxes keep it under control. They slide out and I can pop the lid to get to what I need.

I ordered a factory option that the dealer installed on arrival that fit the full width of the cab under the back seat of my extended cab 2004 3500. It has a lockable cover that has an assisted lift. It is made out of a heavy plastic type material and is listed on my invoice as "Underseat Storage" dealer installed. It has been great for keeping filters, oil and other items. Easy to clean and sealed so that no dirt or spills get on the carpets. I would check with a dealer about availability.

gilroylee , is your underseat storage unit attached to anything, or does it basically just sit under the seat..? I am looking for something like that.

Thanks, John

I guess I should be more exact. I have a crew cab. The extended cab underseat box will not work. If they make a crew cab box someone please tell me the item number.

Thanks

TSimpler,

Have you considered top sider tool boxes (http://community.webshots.com/photo/66688207/66688922wvpjYR)? The boxes I installed are from HIGHWAY PRODUCTS (http://www.800toolbox.com/high-side/high-side.htm).

Wish there was a complete replacement box made for the GM trucks made up as follows;basicly the same dimensions as stock but only four foot inside width with lockable and sealed doors on both outsides ,opening up to storage areas created by narrowing up inside of box. There would be enough depth to store a lot of stuff.Been looking a long time for a tool box that suits my needs but always come up short.I have a roll up tonneu cover and a fifth wheel hitch and like full use of box when hitch is out.

well, this link didn't work, but if you look at www.craftsman.com (http://www.craftsman.com) and then under truck toolboxes they have a little toolbox (the one in the pic is red and diamondplate) that mounts in front of your wheelwell.

Was searching on the internet the other day to find something to remove all the clutter from my back seat. Stumbled across this and am going to give it a try. A little pricy ($169.00), but it looks a whole lot better than squeezing rubbermaide containers under the seat. Let you know what I think when it arrives.

Little....

That storage box is for extended cabs only, not crew cabs. Crew cab rear seats don't lift like the ex cabs. It was offered originally in 2001 as an upfit. Original OEM list price was around a grand, IIRC.

Hey Trent,

I have just the thing for you! They are made by Deezee, a company who makes all sorts of truck products! They are wheel-well tool-boxes. I have them on either side of my truck, and I can still slide a four by eight sheet of plywood in perfectly with about an inch on either side. They come in two sizes, one that is about three-feet long and just sits, encasing the wheel-well, if you know what I mean, and opens at one end. The other size is a six and a half footer, which encases the wheel-well again, but runs down the truck to the balk-head, and toward the tail gate, and is hinged in the middle, and can open from EITHER end. These are the one I have, and as I said, I have one on each side of my truck in the six and a half foot length. They are perfect for holding, lubes, filters, tools, the jack, addetives, booster-cables, etc. They are diamond-plated, and have vary good key locks on either end, and look sharp as well! Hope this helps.
