When I went to pick up my new 32 ft. Dominator XT trailer Thursday, I tried to make sure Prodigy was working right, it wasn't. But I decided to go home anyway. After reaching home, I discovered the only thing on my trailer was the passenger side turn signal, and the passenger side brake light. No brakes, no trailer lights, no drivers side brake or turn signals. After checking the plug on my truck, the only power to the plug was the 12 volt supply, and the turn signal, and the brake light, pass. side. Any body have any ideas. Truck is 2002 GMC 3500. Thanks

ZL-1,
I am not sure how much help I can provide but here goes.
First the Prodigy has nothing to do with the trailer lights, turn signals, brake lights, etc. It only impacts trailer braking.

Since you picked up a new trailer, I would suspect it is not wired like your truck is wired. The following diagram was posted by another member for a 2003 truck a little while ago. Yours should be wired the same...

The wiring for the plug is as follows (starting at 1:00 and going clockwise around the socket,
RED - 12 Volt + (battery feed)
DARK GREEN - Right stop & turn signal
DARK BLUE - Trailer Brakes
WHITE - Ground
YELLOW - Left stop & turn signal
BROWN - Running lights \ tail lights
LIGHT GREEN - Center conductor = Back-up lights
The LIGHT BLUE wire is the center mounted stop light and is not used.
The wiring colors can also be found in the owners manual on page 4-89 (2003 year).

Disconnect the Prodigy and try to get the trailer lights working properly. Then tackle the braking system.

Good Luck, Don

PS. If you hooked up to the trailer and it is not wired correctly, you may have blown a fuse or two. Some fuses are located in the door jamb after you open the drivers side door.

There is just one brake light signal. This brake light signal is then split between both trailer brake lamps in the trailer wiring.

So, if you only have brake lights on one side, it should be a trailer problem.

Since the trailer brake & turn lamp is shared, it wouldn't be a surprise if the turn sig didn't work on the same side that the brake light isn't working on.

Brake controller - make sure the signal is present at the trailer light plug on the truck's rear bumper.

It seems that you are right about the tail lights being split into two, could the bulb be burned out? What about the trailer lights themselves? I would like to have all the information before I look into it. What amount of voltage will I have at the plug on the back of my truck when I have the brake pedal depressed? Is it the voltage shown on the Prodigy the amount I would read? Too many questions. Thanks for all the replies.

ZL-1 - it's not unusual for a trailer to have light bulbs that are not making a good contact at the socket, and the bulb just needs cleaned off and reset into the socket. But you have so many lights not working that it sounds more like a power problem in the trailer wiring, or like Don said,a wiring config in the trailer that's not matching up to the truck connector, specially since you say you have no trailer brakes.
When you apply the brakes you should have 12 volts (DC) at the brake light socket. The Prodigy should also show a readout of 12 volts.

I finally got my truck to the dealer to look at my plug. They said that the connection on top of the fuel tank, which they had to drop out, the connection was loose. Even with the tank dropped, they had a tight spot to get to. Hopefully, it will be OK for a long time. Lets all take a few seconds to thank our American friends overseas fighting for our rights. Thanks again.
